So Where ARE all the are the "Normal" families in Private Schools

Anonymous
Our family income is probably the lowest on this forum, our house is probably the least expensive too. If one of the big name private schools accepts our child & we get financial aid, will you wealthy families still associate with us ? Are you going to have that snobby attitude towards us ?

Not until you get that chip off your shoulder. It's doing terrible things to your posture.

Good luck on this fishing expedition.

Two income family here. Physician and Senior Director of a finance company. Although we make above Obama's cut off for above middle class, i.e. more than $250K we don't make over $300K with our incomes combined. Thank you to the PP who mentioned that physicians today, unless they are cosmetic plastic surgeons or cosmetic dermatologist (non-insurance based services), do not make much above $100K/yr. We fully intend to pay the full tuition, we our DC is accepted. We thought we were normal until we read this thread and met the parents at the schol tours. Many of whom, we'd probably never run into at the public library on the weekend or at Target buying their house hold supplies. Perhaps our DC will add diversity by being different than the "WDC private school normal" above $500K, upper class family that attend these schools.

I think mid- to high six figures is overwhelmingly normal in these schools.

Just double checking, I'm having tryptophan-induced brain fog: does "high six figures" mean the family is making $800K to <$1 million a year?

If that's what you meant, then my personal observation is that families who earn $800K on up are definitely NOT the norm at the schools discussed here. Sure, they're there, but that's not "normal" as OP uses the word. ie, normative

Mid to High six figures would be $3 or 400,000 to 1 mil. I'd say that is the norm in DC privates, actually.

To 20:18 ,

So why wouldn't you run into them at the public library or Target ?

There are lots of law partners at these schools, and they tend to make $500 - $1,000,000. Not this year, perhaps, but in most years. I think that is the norm for paying families at these schools.

Well, second poster, why not share the wealth and purchase first poster a gift certificate to an expensive masseuse? And in the meantime, go see a therapist about your mean spirited ways.

The answer to the question whether "wealthy families" will associate with you is a resounding yes. If my DC befriends your DC, we'll most certainly befriend each other. Kids do get a sense of who might be well off and who might not be so well off, but our experience has been that it does not affect their choices in friendships. Kids are funny that way.

You honestly thought that was a fair-minded question? I guess we disagree.
