| There are lies, damn lies and statistics... |
| maybe.....but I think it is b/c the school lacks a strong reading and writing program....I am happy to see a new 180 reading recovery being implemented |
| I think the new center is a real opportunity for positive change for all parties involved. The LR community is wonderful! |
| Kilmer is an awesome school too - excellent AAP Center as well. |
| If Lemon Road is going to mix kids from GE and AAP in the same classes, then it is NOT a CENTER!!!!!! That is not what the SB intended when they removed kids from Haycock. |
That was kind of out of the blue. Is there new information that caused you to dig up this old thread? |
What are you talking about? Who said LR is going to mix GE kids and AAP kids? |
I think the PP is interpreting the description if Wolftrap's Local Level IV as being the same as the new Level IV Center at Lemon Road. |
| ^of Wolftrap's |
|
I think the concern is that with Shrevewood getting Local Level IV, center-eligible kids will stay there and Lemon Road won't have enough AAP kids for a center comparable to Haycock.
|
|
Westgate is also getting LLIV, further taking away from the eligible students that will attend the center. Does anyone know when Westgate's LLIV orientation is?
FCPS has only committed to having one classroom at the third grade as a result, in contrast to fourth and fifth grade where they have committed to two classes. If third grade has enough students, they will do two classes, but they will not commit to that without definite enrollment numbers. |
| I am really concerning the quality of Lemon Road AAP center. but we dont have a choice. |
| This is the back handed way to get rid of the centers. Open a center but all the schools that feed into it have their own local level iv. So lots of parents stay at the base school with local level iv. Same thing happening at the new Navy AAP center. Only 1 school is assigned to the new center - Crossfield - and they have their own local level iv. |
| There are already a handful of rising 4th graders that aren't going to Lemon Road. Some are going back to their base school, some are going private. The ones who go will have great class sizes. |
|
Some fifth graders are also not going over - I know of a couple who have moved into Haycock base-school boundaries in order to stay there. I say go for it and let us benefit from small class sizes, eager teachers, a warm community and lots of FCPS $$ to help make it work. Let them go thru the renovation, without much of a reduction in student body size and let us enjoy our new community!!!
I am concerned about the size of the third grade AAP class, but the way I figure it, if my child qualifies, he can either be in one classroom at his base school (the base school has said they will keep the AAP classroom a stand alone class for core subjects), or be a part of a community where he meets a lot of other children during all of his classes...and yes, there may be only one AAP class, but there will only be one at his base school, too, right? Win-Win either way. |
