Sorry to bother you, Precious. Note the section on political corruption and civil rights abuses.

Well gee. How could I note those sections when they are buried amidst the clutter of the ENTIRE WIKIPEDIA PAGE??!

Sorry. You are right. I read very fast and I didn't realize how long it would be in this format. I am so moved by this story of corruption and successful social activism to this point. Again, I am sorry.

DeWine is quoted saying each time Anonymous posts details of this rape, it hurts the victim. Meanwhile, the victim's relative came to the Occupy Steubenville protest rally to thank Anonymous and everyone for their support on behalf of the victim and her family. Please don't let the past dictate the future. How many rapes have to kept quiet because they are disgraceful? Date rape is rape. If she can't say "yes" that means "no." A football coach said, "What else are they she gonna tell her parents when she comes home like that? She's gonna tell them she was raped." This town is a pocket of HELL.

PETITIONS.WH.gov
Petitions@wh.gov need 18,000 signatures to get this trial moved from Juvenile courts to Adult Court system.

I can't believe only two boys have been charged.
Anonymous
So, the FBI has been called in to assist with the investigation.

I'd like them to be tried as adults due to the extreme nature of the alleged crime as professed by one of the men not charged.
How come the Steubenville Chief did not see the video? I respect his supporting the facts but, people can only make decisions on the facts they actually have. It is a shame to read the local leaks documents that have been documented and verified by Anonymous then hear notable Ohians claim this exposure hurts the victim. She is reportedly feeling positively about these developments. Idk. Suppose the young men are tried as adults. Jane Doe is from West Virginia and the crime took place in Steubenville.

Maybe they could use Title 18, U.S.C., Section 241
Conspiracy Against Rights. This statute makes it unlawful for two or more persons to conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person of any state, territory or district in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him/her by the Constitution or the laws of the United States, (or because of his/her having exercised the same). It further makes it unlawful for two or more persons to go in disguise on the highway or on the premises of another with the intent to prevent or hinder his/her free exercise or enjoyment of any rights so secured.

We can't call ourselves as a model for human rights if we can't get these facts right and get this case expedited in light of what just happened in New Delhi. Anonymous cares more for this young lady than all of the elected officials in Ohio. Pray for justice. The world is watching.

Punishment varies from a fine or imprisonment of up to ten years, or both; and if death results, or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for any term of years, or for life, or may be sentenced to death.

Lawyers out there, do all the leaks and hacked emails make it harder to prosecute the attackers?
Anonymous
But the uncovered evidence was not uncovered or discovered by law enforcement or prosecutors. So no improper conduct on their part.

No. The defense will claim that because of the media attention his client cannot get a fair trial, but the is BS. There have been jury trials for crimes with more news coverage than here.

Unfortunately, at least one of the defense lawyers is using standard scare tactics in an effort to deter witnesses -- ie suggesting that he would not be surprised if witnesses from the party decided to invoke their 5th Amendment right to not testify, thereby creating the impression that anyone at the parties should fear being charged with a crime.

I think there is another one next Saturday unless Anonymous is satisfied. Check #OccupySteubenville on twitter.

Check this latest posts on this link. One poster alleges a conflict of interest between the Prosecutor and the FBI field office. I was just feeling happy about Anonymous made today. There is more work to be done!

This is horrible. Parents need to teach their sons and tell them not to fucking go out raping people! So sick of women always being told to take better care of themselves because it's their fault...yeah right. Hope these assholes rot.

Yep. I used this case as an example to teach my young daughter what can happen if you drink to the point of intoxication, or take a drink from someone you don't know really, really well. I wonder how many parents will be talking to their sons about this case, and others?

But maybe it's too late. If you need to be told to treat a person like a person and not an inflatable doll for your masturbatory pleasure.... maybe there is no hope for you.

This girl did know the person who gave her the drink. It was the best friend of her ex-boyfriend. About a month b/f this happened, her ex tweeted that "nobody breaks up with Cody Salzman III." He had his friend text her and ask her out on a date.

This whole thing was premeditated. So the lesson--let's teach our daughters not to date psychopaths and not raise our sons to be ones.

As a mom of boys, this makes me so, so sick for many reasons. First, that it happened to this young woman. Second, that the corruption is so pervasive in that culture and you wonder if it could happen elsewhere. I am from Pgh and will agree that there is a lot of corruption, crime, and additiction in this area of Ohio - Youngstown, Uniontown (PA), Steubenville, OH and surrounding areas in that general vicinity of the Ohio River Valley (including Weirton WV area). HUGE, huge meth problem, particularly in the Ohio parts, and a huge, huge mafia presence too. Growing up, we knew what parts of the city were known for mafia, though it was always kind of a whispered deal that didn't impact us much until there was actually a lottery fix and a high profile hit and run conviction that started making it more obvious. Ohio's problems aren't over - the now imprisoned Jim Traficant was crazy but also mob connected. There are still bookmakers in Pgh and a lot of that illegal activity has turned to drug pushing with huge quotas. My cousin who grew up in the area is an addict. It's hard to be a troubled kid growing up in the Ohio Valley of PA or OH and escape addiction because it's everywhere. Especially meth. When the big mafia left there remained behind a vacuum. That sheriff reeks of corruption. So do many of the other people named. Scary and obviously I think the culture of those communities is highly influential here.

But back to my first point - as a mom of boys, this should be as scary as to a mom of girls. Because what went on? Did none of those parents do anything right? Is it possible that they were all terrible enough parents to produce those kids? Or is it, horrifyingly, easier for "good" kids to succumb to groupthink than we might imagine?

Back in HS, a group of kids I know particpated in a group beating of a guy. They all came into school boasting about it, showing the blood on their shoes and saying as they were kicking him it was just splashing everywhere. They weren't sure if he'd died or not when they left and they were still bragging! It was the most talked about "secret" out there. I was disgusted and so were most of my friends, but there were a number of them who just bragged about it. This had supposedly happened over a weekend. I was probably 14 at the time. I told a teacher about it and she was basically like "well, we will need you to say this publicly," and of course, that scared me to death. I said nothing. Nothing ever came of it, the person must have been okay - we would have heard about a death or a severe beating in the news, which made me think at the time maybe the story was exaggerated. One of the leading dudes who was bragging about it tried friending me on FB a few years ago. No thanks! But, I noticed that his page is public and he has kids now, who he seems to be encouraging to be exactly the same. There were a few other guys I knew who were there but two of them died since (addiction for one, something else for the other). So are these the type of parents raising the kids? Or can it happen to anybody's kids?

Anyway, I went to a pretty normal high school, sports were important but not all-important, we lost constantly, etc. But these guys were all football players, I might add. Sports culture is pretty f'd. But there's something else going on. What's wrong with children that they could turn into this or be vulnerable to participating in something like this? This is such a rambling long post and probably has lost most readers, but I keep wondering if the parents of these boys are horrified or if they, too, just think the girl was asking for it, etc.

I hear ya pp. Makes me think about the importance of teaching compassion.
