Rockville Pike is ONE AREA- sooo much of NOVA looks like Rockville Pike it is absolutely depressing, in addition to the gnarled traffic everywhere. I also find the housing stock to be much much nicer in MD. Other than that, NOVA is fine. |
ITA. And Rockville Pike is actually nicer than most of commercial strips in NoVA. There is nothing wrong with VA, iI just find too much of it ugly. |

Virginia sucks. Conservative traffic filled hell hole.

Why the fuck would we want PGC? |
As someone who lives in Moco and is moving to PG, I think both of you are incorrect. PG is under-rated. I chose it over MoCo and NOVA, and not because I couldn't possibly afford "better." |
No gnarled traffic on River Road or Democracy Blvd. White Flint Mall, Arundal Mills? See yo @ Tyson's this weekend. I can prove you wrong all night, please reply soon. I can't wait to visit the Democrats in Congress such as Gerry Connelly, Jim Moran or the fac that Frank Wolf is one of the few remaining moderates. We're mainly just hostile to ignorance. |
This. Traffic sucks in both places. I'd rather live in MD but agree with PP who asked why the fuck VA would want PGC. |
Hello! What I was suggesting is MoCo and the majority of MD wold vote them off the peninsula on any given Sunday. |
|
not going to read all 5 pages but I think most of the trashing is by people who live in Bethesda/CC and picture Fairfax area generally. Arlington is at least as nice as those parts of MoCo though.
" I feel like my MD 'hood is an extention of DC, with walkability to town, and no strip malls. Haven't found that in VA. " uh, eastern and northern parts of MoCo have tons of strip malls and very little walkability. Arlington is probably exactly like your neighborhood. Ever heard of it? I live in Moco now (SS, non-downtown area) but prefer VA, where we used to rent. As for the racist or southern mentions - maybe the rest of the state is but close in northern VA is pretty strongly divorced from the culture of the rest of the state. |
|
'Virginia and North Carolina are southern excepting NoVA and the Research Triangle"
Yes, "VA" is the south. NOVA, however, is not "southern". southern MD may be the south as well, but naturally MoCo is also not "southern". Nowhere in the immediate DC area is "southern" - how can such an over-achiever, workaholic, mostly rude culture be called "southern"?? |

"If you are not from here, some idiots assume you are from someplace like a small town or worse. "
I could probably count on one hand the number of people I have met here that come from someplace else that is NOT a small town or rural area. I know virtually no one who has moved here from a big city. But perhaps I don't know enough obnoxious people like the PP who would view it as offensive to be thought of as being from "a small town or worse". If I could find a decent job in a small town, that'd be the perfect place to live. ah, retirement dreams.... |
| PP at 22:46 - that excludes those that are originally from this area (also a relatively small group compared to those from other parts of the country). |
| i'm hearing a lot of talk of traffic and bridges in VA, but coming down Connecticut Ave from Chevy Chase into DC on a weekday morning seems equally bad to me. The traffic coming down Mass Ave from Bethesda is also terrible. What am I missing? |
Maryland is lost. |
| I dislike its racist, sexist, homophobic laws and policies and dislike the faux liberals who make excuses for all of the above in order to rationalize the fact that they value money (lower taxes) more than other people's civil rights. |
