What franchises have you seen in other parts of the country that you wish were in the D.C. area?

There is one in Belle View, just South of Old Town.

I wish Publix were up here.

The Ninety-Nine. It is sort of like an Applebee's chain up in New England, but the food is much better IMO. Plus, when the Red Sox win, kids eat free (something that didn't happen as much when we were up there this past summer)!

Also, not a food chain, but I wish there were Christmas Tree Shops down here, too.

And Wawa.

There is one in Manassas, but that is too far out and it definitely doesn't fit in well there (near a "Christian" store).

There's a Sonic in Baltimore. If you're up that way, take 695 to exit 18B Randallstown. Make a right on to Liberty Road and go straight for around a mile. It'll be on your right hand side. (My mother lives up that way.)

There's a Wawa in College Park, a mile or so past Ikea. We need one closer in though, dammit.

I'd also kill for a Krispy Kreme closer in than Gaithersburg.

One of my best friends is from Nebraska and she LOVES Runza!

I'm from the South so I also love Krystal and Zaxby's. Krystal is weird though; I don't think they franchise in some states. I know there is only one Krystal in all of Virginia, and that is in Bristol, which is right on the TN line. (I know this because my in laws have a cabin there and we stop at that Krystal when we go.) And no Krystals operate at all in the entire state of North Carolina. Not sure if a Krystal franchise could ever happen here. But Zaxby's is DELICIOUS and I would love to see it up here.

I used to live in Austin and I could get on board with some Taco Cabanas.

Bad Ass in Manassas has been closed for several years now.

Firebirds!!!!

There is one in Frederickburg, you could make a day of the trip by going to one of the National park battlefields or (if you go in the next couple weeks) to Belvedere Plantation or something http://www.belvedereplantation.com/
