My son has never been to the vet so he has no idea of the pic. I have to explain to him. The second wrong answer is q7, the one with a road -> car; and a sea -> ?, he thought the sea is the sky so got airplane than the boat. To be honest, my initial answer was the same as his until I checked the right answer and used my glasses to notice it is sea, not the sky.
Sentence completion has no mistakes
Picture classification he has wrong answers for 16, 17 and 18. I can't blame him cause I could not find the right answers either. I am only able to get them right after checking the answer sheet. Another mistake is carelessness.

Very interesting test! So glad I bought the book.

Maybe neither you nor your child are "gifted"

Truthfully, not many people are gifted if the criteria are used correctly. Among 5000 kids, based on the normal curve, there should be only 125 who are at or above the 97.5% percentile (>= 2 SD).

It is all relative and based on the cut score. I don't think neither my son nor me are gifted, but if they make the cutoff score at 132, my son certainly is in the pool (His NNAT was 140 last year) and should be for the CogAT too. For me, I was in a similar program many moons ago .
I think the Fairfax county should make the test-prep books available in the public library so everybody is in an equal ground. There is really nothing to prepare except for the format and the attention to the details in the pictures.
Good luck everyone's child(ren)! Whether in the pool or not, it is nice to know the scores so you can plan for the best suitable education for your child(ren).

What do you say to your kids on a testing day? Are young kids affected by pressures?

Unfortunately there is no level playing field. There is no way to know what the actual questions are and that's a good thing! But we do know what TYPE of questions to expect and these type of questions are not part of the usual school work, so I prepared my daughter. That way she's not puzzled by the way they ask and visualize questions. I don't want her to memorize, I want her to familiarize herself that's all. Thanks to this online test we were able to address certain challenges and now she feels confident to do the actual test. Yes I'll leave a link here, not because I'm an affiliate or anything, just a mom who cares. http://gtprep.com/lp/cogat2test/

PP 9:33, thanks for the link. But it does not work on my computer

Does your school inform parents about the testing date? At my school, neither the principal nor the teacher informed parents about upcoming CogAt test. It's not in the newsletter, not in school's calendar, on posted on web site, nor mentioned in the back to school night. My child came home yesterday and told me he took part of test. I was surprised.

I was just wondering if this is just my school, or it is the same as other schools. I heard some other schools had AAP information session sponsored by PTA to inform everything about AAP progress. For our shcool, it has been very quiet regarding to this subject.

I am not trying to prep my child, but at lease need to know the testing date so that I can make sure my child will have a good night sleep before the test.

Our school sent a letter with dates (Tuesday folder) and went over some sample questions last week.

Leave it alone already, they are already testing! Too late to prep, IMO. I'd be afraid it would simply cause undue stress on your kid at this point.

Principal sent a letter home in Tuesday folders telling us there would be testing on certain dates, that we will be sent results in the mail and asked that parents not schedule drs appt for those dates so kids would be at school

In Fairfax county they will be testing next week, this was announced about 2 weeks ago. I personally think that you'll actually remove stress from the child because they are familiarized with some of the material. Besides that, the test we did on GTPrep is actually fun to do!

It is this week for second grade.

In 2011 18% of the county's 2nd grade entered the AAP program. This year the numbers seemed significantly higher (waiting to hear the actual percentiles). It is definitely not a "gifted" program any more.

Is that on purpose? The program was called "GT" but now AAP. AAP sounds a lot more normal than GT.

Our school had one section of the test today. We were informed of the test dates from a letter asking parents not to schedule appointments during the three days.
It was very low key... My son could not even recall the event.
