Anyone start a large family after 30?

Anonymous
My parents started at 32. Had 4 by the time they were 40.

1st kid at 40, next 2 kids at 43.

Our first two were each at least six months of trying hard.

Our second two were basically the high school sex ed stories of "made the beast with two backs once, got preggers", with the exception that we actually had decided to start trying. Just didn't expect to be quite so successful, quite so fast, at least with the third.

Seriously? Of course it is!

You could easily have 4 kids spaced two or three years apart Eve if start at 30. You’d be done by 40 which is on the young side in this region.

When I did it was triplets (3 girls!) the first go! We had a son two years later. And I’m pregnant again! As long as your healthy, lead an active lifestyle you’ll be okay!

wow! did you use the same donor each time?

+1

Happy with your snark?

Jesus, do you live in a shoe?

I have 3, which feels large to me. Kids are almost exactly 2 years apart born just before I turned 33, just after I turned 35 and just after I turned 37. I’m done, but think I could have another at 39 if I wanted to (in terms of biology, etc... although you obviously never know). I started trying at 30. Had a lot of trouble having #1 and had multiple IUIs + injectibles. 2 and 3 then came immediately with no assistance. Crazy.

Hi, what is the age gap between the 3?

Two years and three years.

Thank you. I'll give birth to my first at 34 and would love at least one more - DH wants two more. This gives me hope

You're ahead of the game. Here's my actual breakdown, because I said 35 but that's how old I was when I got pregnant.
I gave birth at
early 36
38
41

What you want to do is start having unprotected sex when the first is a year. You can ramp it up to actually ttc a few months after that. My mistake was waiting until the second was 2 to start trying. If I could do it again, I would start earlier on the third. You have more time than I did, however.

Bad idea for number 2. My first took a year to conceive with a miscarriage from 8-10 months so I thought by 37 it would take longer. Nope. Pregnant in 3 weeks of trying. I really don’t recommend trying unprotected until you’re really ready for it.

+1. My first took over a year to conceive, with a miscarriage. My second and third I got pregnant literally the first time I had unprotected sex (I was 35 and 37 at the times).

Btw, there’s a strong genetic componant to late fertility. And it’s correlated with female longevity. So if the women in your family tend to live longer than average and have babies later in life, it’s more likely you will be able to as well.

I know someone pregnant with #10 at 40. I believe her oldest is 14 or 15.

I had my three between 35 and 40. No multiples, no reproductive assistance. No miscarriages.

I know of a woman who got married to a 55 year old man in her late 30s (I think she was around 36 or 37) and proceeded to have 4 kids in a row in 5 years (all c sections).

Yep.

I’m on my 5th and started at 33. All singletons.

7.5 year-old boy
4.5-year-old girl
3-year-old-girl
18-month-old girl

Boy due in May, I’m 41. Done after this.

So far all vaginal births. Second was delivered in DHs car!
