"Can we ever feel safe again in a movie theater?"

I actually thought he/she was being sarcastic at first. Apparently not.

No, it's not the movies--so for every one qualified, sane, and able shooter who might halt a shooter such as the Aurora guy, there are 100+ idiots who have none of those qualities.
Yeah, guns don't kill people, morons do - so why are we letting morons buy guns?

because the cat is out of the bag. if morons are going to have guns, I am going to have a gun to protect me from those morons. You may think that is a vicious cycle of violence, and maybe it is. but better to be pragmatic than sorry.

if you have been trained in firearm safety and use, you can easily shoot someone with a handgun from 25 feet in a poorly lit area. Don't act like this is navy snipers taking out pirates at midnight while drifting 400 yards behind at high seas ....

and something like this happens again...and we all go "WHY???"

This country is as crazy as the day is long.

Humans are nuts, period. I don't think we have more than our fair share of wackos per capita. One question is our access to guns and how much easier wackos have it if they want to cause major harm.

What's crazy, though, is people who now won't go to movie theaters--but they will light up a cigarette. Or go to a tanning booth. All the daily behaviors that are eventually going to kill them. And yet they're much more afraid of the one in a zillion event like a movie theater massacre.

In the post 9/11 period, I worked with a woman who was a heavy smoker. She was in her 50s and already suffering the effects of it. However, she was much more afraid of terrorists and went out and bought a special chemical hood to wear in case of attack. She went to trainings on how to use it and told me how she'd asked whether she could take it off to smoke as needed when wearing in during a suspected attack.

Everyone on DCUM who wonders why, after the latest mass casualty, we can't do anything about thiis as a country should call the NRA headquarters. Better yet, go out there in person -- it's in Fairfax right off I-66. Tell them to stop being a lobby for criminals and arms merchants and to back reinstatement of the assault weapons ban and other common sense restrictions on high powered weapons and ammo.
