I will never understand the insane troll logic of the gun lobby. This is NOT a situation where a handgun would have helped. |
Former Aurora resident here, this is simply not the case. The northern parts of Aurora have significant problems with gangs and violence, and there are certainly parts of Aurora that get close, but this area is not the equivalent of Anacostia. It is a reasonably safe area. |
Uh...I can't stand attitudes like this. Please move back to your backwoods hometown ASAP. You probably have never even been in any of the neighborhoods you're talking bad about. Such a cowardly loser. |
of COURSE it would. If I was there, with my concealed firearm and training, I would have likely found a way to get off a clean shot. Certainly I would not have dived under the seat and wait for my execution. I would not have shot anyone else in the crossfire - this is 25 feet and I am an expert marksman. |
Do you think you are representative of the population that will pack heat in a movie theater? |
In the dark? Do you have your night-vision goggles too, Rambo? |

Yeah, there is no movie theater in Anacostia. That pp is a fool. |
not to mention these mass type shootings are commited mostly by white, educated social outcasts. Columbine, Az shooting, Va tech (asian but socioeconomic same), Norway camp shooter etc. this is not a gang, drug-related street violence. Don't fool yourself. |
lots of cops and firemen and ex-military in the movie theaters. |
Yes, do you trust all cops, fire fighters, and military folks to be crack shots with level heads? I don't. Plus there are reports that the shooter was dressed in a way that it made it look like he was a member of the SWAT team and could have been mistaken for a cop. So, let's see, various individuals in civilian clothes shooting in a crowded movie theater in an effort to defend themselves from the crazy guy dressed like a cop. You're a SWAT team member and you show up - who do you shoot? Do you stop and ask first? |
While many of the self-defense scenarios discussed here are unrealistic, this post overstates the point. A handgun would certainly give someone a better chance to survive than nothing in this sort of situation--which is extreme, of course--and while someone returning fire might have hit the wrong person, it might also have distracted the shooter and allowed others more time to escape. It is really hard to judge. A more commonplace scenario is the one presented here: http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/national-international/71-Year-Old-Man-Shoots-Would-Be-Robbers-at-Ocala-Internet-Cafe-Authorities-162941656.html Banning private gun ownership and concealed carry would have forced the victims of this armed robbery to accept whatever violence the criminals chose to inflict on them. Whatever your views on the issue generally, it seems to be that this individual clearly had the right to defend himself, and that it is not a trivial thing to deprive people of the means of self-defense, because the police have neither the capability or the obligation to protect citizens in real time. |
But then you get cases like that asswipe in FL. I don't care if he said it was self-defense - guy chased this kid and the kid defended himself. Because pursuer had a gun, kid gets shot and killed. Fucking ridiculous. |

Not to mention, no one said take away all guns. Hunting and protection is fine by me.
I'm all for banning assault weapons which allow people to cause this much damage, frankly. There is no argument that makes any sense to allow people to buy and use assault weapons. |
