Really? I lived on the west side beyond MLK (not far beyond, in Pigtown/Washington Village) and I did not have one tiny bit of an issue with crime. Our neighbors' house was broken into once, I think. That's it. I walked to and from work and school; I did legal clinic work with people on the real west side. I got rear-ended once in the 4 years I lived there. My neighbors were not the richest people in the world, but they were for the most part good, kind, welcoming people. I can't say that what you described didn't happen, but it really doesn't jive with my experiences at all. |

I was born and raised in Baltimore, my parents were born and raised in Baltimore and my grandparents were born and raised in Baltimore. In the city. I'm not saying that Baltimore is perfect but there are nice parts to it. Yes, there are bad parts and I have spent plenty of time in the bad parts--I went to high school in the inner city in one of the most "dangerous" neighborhoods of Baltimore. And was NEVER assaulted, robbed, etc. in all of those years.
Not I, nor anyone in my family, have ever been a victim of crime in Baltimore. It wasn't until I moved here that I had my car stolen (in Friendship Heights, no less). Point is, crime can happen, and does happen, anywhere. Based on my personal experience, Chevy Chase is the most dangerous place I've ever lived

Yes, raised one there! She is doing well, thank you. |
Snicker. If you think Delhi is the same as Buenos Aires, you've clearly never been to both. |
| I love Baltimore (go Ravens, go Orioles), but the crime there sucks and it is harder to avoid than in "urban" areas of DC metro. I lived just west of MLK while in law school at UMD, had my car stolen, roommates were mugged, dead body in our alley, house broken into while we were home, etc. Not good. Still love B'more, just wouldn't live there. If I had a good job there I would live in Ellicott City. |
| Well I am a waspy white girl and I lived in Baltimore for 4 years - worked downtown for a year and then went to Maryland law school downtown. I walked around during the day all the time, was way more cautius at night but, hell I am way more cautious at night in my pricey NWDC neighborhood too. I loved Baltimore. It has character. Lots of nice people live there. Interesting people live there. Sometimes it feels like you are in a time warp in Baltimore. |

| I WAS BORN AND RAN DC, PG, AND BALTIMORE. I AM WHITE AND HAD MY GOOD DYAS AND BAD BUT WHEN I MOVED TO MIAMI I GOT SHOT IN THE HEAD ! IT COULD OF HAPPENED IN ANY OF THESE CITIES BUT MIAMI IS OFF THE HOOK BECAUSE ITS SO SPREAD OUT! NO ONE TELLS IF A WHITE GETS SHOT BY A BLACK GANG CALLED THE JON DOE BOYS . I USED GO TO PORK&BEANS, BROWN SUB, SCOTT PROJECTS AND EVERY OTHER HOOD IN LIBERTY VILLAGE AND OT. ALL CITIES R DANGEROUS BECAUSE THEY ALL HAVE THE STI9CK UP BOYS AND NO OPEN DRUG SALES WERE YOU ARE SOMEWHAT PROTECTED LIKE GEORGIA AVE. IN DC. USED TO BE!!!!! |
I have lived in Baltimore for twenty years and never had any of these experiences. You must have lived in some drug ridden poor section of the city. Ands yes, similarly poor neighborhoods exist in all major cities including dc. |
Yes, jeez louise, where did you live? I've lived in the city for 15 years... 15 uneventful years. My neighbors are nice. Sometimes there's crime in the neighborhood. It hasn't happened to me so far, knock wood. There are no piles of sawdust soaking up the blood (!!!!!!!). or heroin addicts on our porch. For perspective, the houses in our neck of the wood cost <$100k, so definitely not a wealthy part of the city! Just a place where normal lower-to-middle-class working families live. |
You haven't been to Detroit outside of downtown. |
So if a woman got raped that would be ok cause she drank too much? |
| Another white girl that lived in Baltimore for three years and loved it! I lived in Federal Hill just three doors down from *The Poor Black People in the PROJECTS*!!!! Not once was my car damaged, home broken into, or physically assaulted. My neighbors were kind. They looked out for me. I would move back in a second. |
