Why you should never ever go to Baltimore

Anonymous
baltimore seems as bad as philly when it comes to the senseless mobs and attacks.

the targeting of random innocent passersby is most alarming.

i don't see what the ghetto contest has to do with anything.

but it is a question worth asking... what in the hell is going on? and why are so many of these kids black?

See... because you wouldn't go to the projects unless you got lost. Right? And you certainly wouldn't get drunk and go down there walking around like a fool.

I'm not saying he deserved it - I'm saying, it was fooling. Those people SHOULD and will be followed up with by the police, but lets take a little personal responsibility for our actions as well.

But some people on here were saying that he deserved it. Which is why I got my panties in a twist. Was it dumb? absolutely. I said that.

Also, from an article:
"An influential Twitter user from Baltimore who has 47,000 followers posted it and wrote, "Black Power. LMAO," an abbreviation for laughing. He included the Twitter account of the man who allegedly threw the punch."

If you get your panties in a twist everytime someone says something dumb, especially on DCUM - you will cut years off your life.

[On that note: I didn't mention anything about the race of the idiots that attacked him.] But you know what? When I was there I wasn't beaten, robbed, and stripped of my clothes!
Was it smart of him to get drunk and be by himself in a city with high crime rates? Of course not. But just because he made a (really) poor decision, that makes it okay for people to blame him?

I was raised accross the river from New Orleans and we thought NOTHING of living on the streets Mardi Gras weekend. Or walking through the Algiers Projects. Going to St. Louis #1 day or night. And if you haven't walked somewhere while intoxicated in New Orleans then you haven't been there.

Yeah. I should be able to walk around drunk in an unfamiliar area and not get severely beaten and stripped naked. There are a least 2 comments that seem to suggest that this is the victim's fault. Not cool.
Yes, not cool but the title of this thread is "Why you should never go to Baltimore" as if this only happens in Baltimore. No the guy shouldn't have been attacked like that but this happens other places as well. Getting drunk like that is not a good idea. That's the better advice. The Baltimore part is irrelevant.

Oh please, there are lots of "ghetto" neighborhoods where you will be just fine. I live in one in DC and they're really not as scary as you think.

I was just at a hospital up in Baltimore visiting a friend, and every single one of us visiting her commented on how friendly everyone at the hospital was-from the parking attendant to the security guard, to the nurses and random people we ran into in the elevator.

You are comparing the entire city to an experience that you had at a hospital, from the parking garage on up? That is ridiculous.
Oh is that any less ridiculous than comparing an entire city to an experience shown on YouTube?

Buzzz! Logic fail!

You gotta keep your wits about you in rougher areas. But to never ever visit? coming from a DC poster (or at least on a DC message board), are you kidding me?? As if DC is amazingly safe all over? Baltimore has an incredible amount to offer and was a wonderful place to grow up. Nice being in a city where generations have grown up, and not like here where it feels like 90% of everyone i meet is from somewhere else, there you say your last name and you have 5 connections to the person you are talking to. I love both cities.

Ditto! I grew up in Baltimore and most of my family is still in Baltimore city and county. I love it. Yes, there are some really, really ugly sides to the city, but it also has wonderful parts and great people. I do love how small town it feels too. I haven't lived in Baltimore for 15 years and meet people all the time that I knew or someone in my family knows. It keeps people nice. You won't act like an ass because someone might know you, unlike DC, where anonymity gives one a free pass at being a jerk.

My husband grew up in Baltimore (between Hopkins (not the medical school) and Loyola campuses) and his family is still there. We lived in Mt. Vernon for a few years, downtown for a year, and in Hampden before moving to the DC suburbs (or back to DC for me). I grew up in Montgomery County and would move back to Baltimore in a heartbeat. Yes, there are parts of the city where I wouldn't drive or walk alone. But, there are other parts of the city that are charming and lovely. There were a handful of times that I felt unsafe where we were living, but there are occasional times that I feel unsafe where we live now or when I'm out in Rockville or even Bethesda (gasp!). Even though we were living in DC at the time, we went back to Baltimore for our wedding because we feel more "at home" there. Just feel like all of us with a love for Baltimore have to come to the poor city's defense!

Baltimore is awful. My work colleague was mugged in broad daylight when she went with her autistic son to get lunch during a day of appointments at Kennedy Krieger.

My mom was mugged in broad daylight getting off a train in Chicago. Is Chicago just awful, too?

As we all know, DC is comprised solely of NW and the rest of those quarters don't exist. I spent 8 years in Baltimore and I wish I could convince DH to move back.
