Norway's child protective service and Indian immigrants

This is simply racism.

first, the father works for Halliburton in norway's oil and gas industry...so he was invited to the job. Second, the parents want to get the heck out out of that racist country, but Norway wants to keep the children even after the parents leave. I am sure if the parents knew that Norway was going to keep their children, they would not have gone there. You are missing the point.

Focus on the issue: children removed forcibly from parents without good reason according to county welfare board proceedings. Return the children and I am sure the parents would gladly leave. Until this is bought to some common sense resolution, I don't want to go back to Norway even for work meetings. Or buy their damn salmon.

Here is another Norwegian article discussing the issue. More I read about this case more I am bothered.

You think the standard of living in Norway makes it a utopia??? That the government is NOT intrusive? That is hilarious and sad. So many people here think Western Europe is so forward, so wonderfully progressive and yet citizens there are not nearly as free as they are here. The restrictions on liberties such as free speech in many of these places would blow. your. mind. I think all of the people here who mock staunch patriots, tea party-ers, etc. should move to somewhere like Denmark, where the government gives you a list of names to choose from when naming your kid. It's not all extended maternity leave and streets so safe you can leave your baby outside in a stroller.

I might trade the freedom to name my baby whatever I want for safe streets and extended maternity leave! Europe is much more progressive than the United States and most modern European countries have free speech laws just like we have here. Tea partiers are a bunch of old people gone senile who hate our president b/c he is 1/2 black.

Interesting. I'm one of the PPs who thought there might be another side to the story.

Particularly interesting is that the foster families get paid so muh to take on these foster kids!

They really should give the kids back and let the parents leave the country. Not sure why that can't happen.

Wait, where are all the posters who say how AWESOME and advanced Norway is because of it's FF carseat laws.

Now you finay exactly what happens when you don't do exactly what they want you to do. Silly Americans. So cute with your "freedom" and "rights". So clueless about the rest of the world.

PP again.

And why were the kids put in two separate homes? Even if there was abuse or neglect, wouldn't it be more beneficial to keep the siblings together?

You realize that "Europe" is a big place and you've just lumped Greece and Turkey in with the Netherlands and Norway? Surely you don't think they are the same?

Those of you who are saying this is a case of govt overreach are basing it by your understanding of the US law. Anyone familiar with Norwegian law who can tell us more? This may be perfectly instep with their rule of law.

Where are you from? You sound like a bitch.

All Americans are clueless? Have you been to other countries? Indians are incredibly racist. Save your insults. They don't help your case at all.

Um, I am going to hope you were being facetious when you said Indians were racist, because you're not exactly doing Americans any favors with that statement.

I'm Indian. And I find Americans to be less racist than Indians in general. Calling people 'Silly Americans' was just condescending and rude. Maybe that attitude is why they found that the poor kid in the story was 'arrogant' and obnoxious in school.

It is immaterial how good Norway is about everything else and how awful India is otherwise, on the issue of these children being taken away, Norway is plain wrong. And btw the Indian government doesn't come out smelling like roses. Any country that truly cared about it's citizens--and both parents and the children are Indian citizens--would come down on this like a ton of bricks. I know Hillary would if something like this ever happened to me--and grateful for that.
