To say "the bible is a book of myths" is also a statement of fact. Even people who believe in the whole truth of the Bible can agree to this. At least those who have access to a dictionary. Now, whether they get upset about this objective statement of fact or not is beyond our control. |
Again, you may want to check your sense of persecution at the door. I most certainly do not think all Christians are intolerant. But it's staggeringly obvious from this thread (and from the D'Aulaire thread) that there are some intolerant Christians. But more than that, they've got an incredible sense of entitlement. But this is because they're Christians in America, and has little to do with Christianity as such. I'm sure ultra-Orthodox Jews who reside in Israel are equally insufferable. |
| I am going to reference this thread when everyone starts blaming DCUM intolerance on atheists. |
How it is intended does not matter How it is perceived by Christians who have been told that the New Testament is "so called bible and mythology of Christ" is all that matters. I have found it insulting and, apparently, there are others who agree with me. |
|
Huh...while no one can claim whether 'some' or 'most' or 'all' or 'few' Christians are intolerant, history teaches us of Christian intolerance through the Crusades, the Inquisition, And the witch trials in Salem.
Signed, a Christian |
The most blatant militant post is from a jew. |
| I think the current-day evangelicals are a better example to reach to, PP, than the Inquisition which happened eons ago and has not much at all to do w/ current views. |
| the most offensive post came from a self-identified Jew. I'm hoping that was a Troll though, since it was so over the top. |

I think it is the height of arrogance to believe than any of us really know God. As a Christian, I have no problem believing that other religions are "right".....different paths to the same destination. However, I do have a big problem with any religion that claims others are "going to hell". God (the first mover, the universe, Allah....whatever you want to call him) has a plan. And the God I have begun to know is loving and compassionate. Why would he create people only to burn them for eternity for their sins? That makes no sense.
I think we do this life thing over and over again until we get it right. Then, we get to hang out in heaven. |
Then I don't think you understand the definition of the word. You are probably confusing it with the show "Mythbusters". |
You mean the post that said everyone who does not worship Jesus is in error? |
| This is just so sad... |
Hey now! Watch yourself! The only unpardonable sin a Christian can commit is to note another Christian being an insufferable shit. That's why the horrible subset of Christians have taken over the airwaves, periodicals, and our public life spewing the vilest sort of anti-Christian garbage, while the good Christians kind of stand around looking mildly uncomfortable. |
hah, no, the one talking about the so-called Christian bible and the mythology of Jesus. so there were two insufferable bigots on this thread - one an assumed christian and one a self-proclaimed jew. I'm hoping both were fake,. |
I'll give you the insufferable Christian and the insufferable Jew, but you have to admit some of the atheists are pretty insufferable too. In fact, if IC and IJ are both fake, what does that mean ... more insufferable atheists? Wait, what am I doing here with all these insufferable people (present company excepted, PP)? Time to leave this thread and get some fresh air. |
