Ah, in 2011 missionaries have been to every corner of the globe. Non-believers have no excuse. |
The "so-called Christian Bible" also has the Old Testament of which you are , presumably more tolerant. As Christians we do not refer to the Old Testament as "mythology" and we do not speak of it in a distainful manner. Your contempt for Christians and our belief is equally as despicable as anti-semitism. |

Did you consider that I was asking those questions of the poster claiming the bible should only be interpreted as literal? |
| The word "mythology" is not intended as an insult to other religions. Please look up the definition. |

No, missionaries haven't made it to every part of the globe...wonder how many Christian missionaries are in North Korea? But even if they had, what about all the people who came before this generation? Really it doesn't matter though. You think only Christians know god and are saved. I can't talk you out of that. But it doesn't mean you or any other similarly opinionated religious people are right.
My belief is that if there is a god that god is the god of everyone. I don't know how that god squares up with any particular religious narrative...maybe "he" does, maybe they all have it wrong. But with the great proliferation of "believers" in the world who think their version is the best and/or only one they can't all be right, and I find it very hard to believe that just one has it completely right. Who knows? But I personally think it would be best for everyone to come to their own conclusion, follow their faith, but refrain from making sweeping judgements of everyone else when none of us know the whole, real, truth. I know many of us think we do, but really none of us do. Maybe those that think they are most sure are really the furthest from god. Who knows? |

Op is a troll. You're a nutjob. And given that there have been several comments that are disrespectful of Judaism, there's no need for some looney hypothetical about what PP might do. The Christians are the only ones on these kinds of threads who demand unwavering fealty to their worldview by others. We live in an increasingly multi-religious world. Take the stick out and get used to it. |
Not sure why you're shocked. This is standard mainstream Christian doctrine. |
Religious Christian here, and no, I do not believe that Jews or Muslims worship God "incorrectly." I think that there is one God, we worship the same one, and that we have different paths for that worship. |
I find this incredibly offensive! Mocking Christian beliefs is so in vogue these days, but it's WRONG! You can't call the Bible "one religious book". Many believe it's THE ONLY RELIGIOUS BOOK! You should say something like, "While the Bible is the one true religious book, but some don't believe it." To do otherwise is to unnecessarily insult the Christians here. |
Yes, being insufficiently reverent about one's beliefs is exactly as despicable as a philosophy of racial genocide. Has there ever been an oppressor class with such a tightly wound sense of being the victim? And you wonder why people laugh at you guys. |
STOP USING THAT WORD!!1! You're going to turn PP into an atheist!

I know you are being facetious, but to say, "the bible is one religious book" is a statement of fact. Even people who believe in the whole truth of the bible (believe it in literal terms) understand and acknowledge that other religions (however wrong) have religous texts (however wrong). Christians may not believe in the Koran but they understand that it is a "religious" book (meaning a book that is used for religious purposes by a group of people). I get it though, you think all Christians are intolerant. Which says more about you than all Christians. |

wow. OP here who last checked the thread when only 4 or so had replied. (not sure why a PP thinks this topic makes me nutso - it was a genuine question after multiple conversations with people in real life)
I am also surprised that the more militant posts weighing in seem to be from a Christian poster (sounds like 1 but perhaps more?) that is very literal and of the "my religion is the only correct one" view. In real life, the people who told me that Jews and Christians don't worship the same god were both Jewish. I also think that whether or not we worship the same God is a different question from which religion is right (or if neither holds an exclusive lease on the truth). Thanks for all the posts though. |
