yeah, I make $200K+ and do nothing all day and get great reviews. It really isn't that hard to fool people.

If you could write well, maybe I'd understand your point.

If you stop surfing the Internet 10 hours a day maybe your reading comprehension will improve. Have you heard of that study about the relation between the amount of time you spend online and the lacking attention spannto focus on reading small paragraphs?

again - WTF does this mean?

You're questioning MY ability to comprehend the written word?

You're a moron.

Get off the Internet, lady. It's messing up with your brain.

You can't come up with more than 2 lines sentences... You should get off the internet an have yourself checked. For your own sake and your children's!

We can't forget to add that the use of curse words and name calling are common escapes for a very limited vocabulary. Someone here has been seriously affected by the excessive use of the Internet and is in deep denial.

Anonymous wrote:This is why so many of the jobs that are going away during this recession are not coming back. Employers are finding our that they can do without a significant number of their employees. I think employers had a certain number of employees, and never adjusted when computerization made people more efficient. I have a relative who is a head hunter, and she says that most of their clients are just cutting "dead wood."

Agree that your employer knows who is productive and who is not, and when the first occasion comes, the non-productive ones will be the first out the door.

For what it's worth, I'm a government lawyer who is so busy that some days I'm lucky if I have time to go to the bathroom. I supervise some people who work really hard and some who don't, I know exactly who they are.

Great Point! I work a PT job right that used to be two full-time jobs. The two folks were laid off, some of the work was digitized and now I work 25 hrs./week doing what two people used to do in 80 hrs./week. Great hourly pay, but NO benefits. I'm so busy that my head spins, but I'm not complaining because it beats not having a job or a paycheck at all.

There is a secretary where I work who will be let go after the holidays because she isn't doing anything. I feel bad because nobody has warned her that we all know that she isn't doing anything. We are too polite to tell somebody they are doing a bad job. So they get worse and worse until finally they are so bad we can justify firing them.

I think it all depends how ambitious you are. Staying in a middling job with low stress is a great fit for some people. My former assistant was very smart and could have done more but that's not what he wanted. He wanted to be able to leave at 5 everyday. I make a lot of money but to do that I need to actually work hard. I am in a professional service business (but not a lawyer) so if we don't get the work done the clients won't be happy. That is the motivator for me - it's mostly external, not internal pressure. And it's my personal reputation at stake. OP maybe there are some other projects you could take on that would be interesting?

Why should I write two or more sentences when you obviously have trouble comprehending one statement?

See? Another display of your incapacity to follow the discussion. YOU were the one asking "WTF" this means complaining, cursin and name calling because you can't understand what people say.

Honestly, lady, get off the internet and seek help. Seriously!

Anonymous wrote:I was just talking to DH about it and he laughed saying he knows exactly who you all are.

He said that usually lower level employees do this and they're not fooling anyone hiding their gossip magazines behind file folders. Your bosses know exactly who you are and you're not given challenging tasks because probably you would not be able to accomplish those assignments.

You guys reminded me of that stupid cheez-it commercial.... have you seen it?

Funny.

I don't really think many of the PPs gave the OP advice on how to improve the situation or how to get motivated to work more. The thread reads more as a commiseration of working moms and an acceptance that it's 'normal'. Heck, we all get paid $75k a year to puts around at work and read People Magazine behind our legal file folders. 'Ain't no shame.'

Nope I get 150k to putz

Sorry, but I find it pathetic that so many PPs are so proud that they make a great salary to sit around and do nothing. Don't you feel even the slightest bit guilty? Or, do you just feel entitled to such a great salary? 150K to putz around at work? Crazy.

Put in 16 hard years at work and a graduate degree to be here. No guilt.

She's not a liar. I am the 150K poster. Do you people not realize that the higher up the corporate ladder you rise=less work? The managers do a hell of a lot less than the worker bees. The first 5 years of my job I was doing tons of 'unvoluntary overttimes" and busting my a** to prove myself. Things got so much easier as the years went by. I also basically have the same tasks...which after many years you get better at doing and it takes a lot less time.

nope. I really don't work that hard at all. Most days I spend 4-5 hours surfing the internet and reading news stories.

I hope those of you bragging about how much you don't do are not the same people who complain about teachers not returning your "just checking in" email.
