| Midwestern-raised WASP here. Left to my own devices, I'd choose to kiss my 3-year-old daughter on the cheek. She likes to kiss on the lips sometimes, so I roll with it. |
| MD native WASP here...kiss my baby on the lips all the time and so does my DH (New England Jew) mostly because DS loves it and kisses us that way. I'm sure we'll stop as he gets older. Growing up only older aunts and grandparents kissed us on the lips past babyhood and I do remember thinking it was gross. |
| In certain Eastern European states, anything less than full-on tongue is considered weird. |
This is timely, my husband looked at me funny when I kissed our newborn on the lips the other day. Seemed entirely natural to me. I mean, I just birthed him out of my vagina and he sucks on my boobs all day...and I shouldn't kiss him on the lips? It's like kissing his toes to me. There's only a couple of places I DON'T kiss on him, the rest of him is delicious, including those cute little cupid bow lips
I remember my parents and grandparents kissing me on the lips as a wee kid. It's affectionate, not sexual! Are people that paranoid with their own kids? Anyway, I'm pretty white, born and raised in California, my grandparents were Italian and Eastern European. Maybe that had something to do with it. |
| 30 and kissing your father on the lips? Sorry but that is WEIRD. |
Also from WNY. I kiss kids and pets on the lips. We need more sugar in snow country! |
What do the studies say about blow jobs? |
| I am American and I kiss my baby on the lips but I would never kiss someone else's baby on the lips and I would be irritated if another family member (besides hubby) kissed MY baby on lips. |
|
no it's not. It's only weird if one of the parties involved thinks it's weird. |
Your gross lips full of herpes and all sorts of bacteria will. |
Nobody said it's sexual. What is being pointed is the transmission of disease to infants who are not ready for that kind of exposure just yet. |

| Are you lip kissers OK with caregivers kissing the baby on the lips? |
This. I'm from New Orleans and have never kissed family members on the lips, though I knew other families who did. I always found it strange, but my 2 yr old DD kisses me on the lips now, and while at first it was awkward for me, I couldn't bring myself to say to her, "don't kiss mommy on the lips." After a while I got quite comfortable with it . I've never seen her kiss anyone else that way, though, she kisses everyone else on the cheek. Go figure. |
