School Recommendation for Gifted Child

Was your son a fire fighter?

Hi, PP here. I apologize, but I'm afraid I don't understand your post. As I said in mine, we didn't teach him reading or math either; he taught himself/picked it up on his own. If he had shown no interest, that would have been just fine too. As it happens, he showed great interest; that is who he is. I'm rather confused as to what you were trying to convey with your post, actually. For example, don't understand the firefighter question at all, actually, LOL. Did you mean to ask if he has "normal" age-appropriate boy interests as well as reading/math? If that was your question, then yes, absolutely--went through the train, dinosaur, etc. phase like all boys. And as for hating vegetables, the only vegetable he will eat is cucumber, LOL. But then again, I don't think I get your implication--a person can be highly gifted and have academic innate interests and still be a normal child, if that was what you are getting at. If it wasn't, could you please clarify?

Not the pp, but wondering why the hostility in your post?

I was a highly gifted child and also a self-taught reader in preschool - and had a highly developed imaginary play world as well. It happens.

I hope so, most of the G&T kids I knew growing up in Bethesda ended up as average citizens. Some weird though. Just don't want my son to be weird. He will learn calculus, both of us are mathematicians. It is just not the most important thing now. OP please cherish these days. The odd things they say are so much more interesting than the smart things they say. It will never be this spontaneous again, especially with a bright child.
