Why don't you believe in Evolutionary Theory?

Puhleeze. Apparently you want to miss the tone in numerous anti-catholic posts. I'm not going to cut and paste for you. But I've lost respect for you.

Once creationists step up and provide evidence to support their folk tale, we could actually do research on it.

There is nothing worse than a dumbass who doesn't know what scientific theory is.

My beliefs are based on faith so I don't need science to convince me of anything.

Now, if you truly believe in the scientific method you know that a theory is that, just a theory... once it becomes a law then you can shout saying it's true.

One question I always had was "how do you know the scientific method is accurate?" none of my science professors could ever respond to this question.

Not to be "snarky", but I have literally zero respect for such childishness. Grow up.

- the many snarky atheist comments on a 34-page thread
- the many recent threads on "catholics, how do you live with yourselves," and "scientologists, please justify your existence to me," and the recent threads going after mormons.

And yet, atheists blame theists for ignoring "scientific evidence"!

I'm offended by your snarky and blatant use of the phrase "atheists". If you're going to talk about people who don't believe in gods, be respectful. We prefer the term "rational adults".

PPs, do think twice about responding to the obvious a$$hole at 10:00 and 10:03. She doesn't seem worth anybody's time.

Yep, rational thinking is so out of fashion in post-crash America. The renaissance of irrationality that metastatized in the 80s and which has grown since then has really served us well in the US.

Looking forward to taking our rightful place among third-tier has-beens along with Greece and Italy.

Now, let's not get hyper-sensitive. I'm using the term "rational" in it's clinical sense. We already discussed the fact that faith-based beliefs aren't contingent on rationality. "Believers" versus "rational people" is the natural dichotomy.

Given the frequent recommendations on the other thread that theists read this or that article or book on philosophy or evolution - I don't think it's too much to ask you to stick a toe in the catholic thread, and see the ugly there. I don't think anybody disputes there is at least one ranting, nutcase atheist on DCUM, and several snarky atheists.

In fairness, there are probably no scientologists or mormons reading those threads. And much of the Catholic thread is being kept alive by catholics debating other catholics. This distinction seems to be lost by the catholics who believe that criticism = bigotry.

Yup. I'm sorry if you find folks' pointing to the long history of the Catholic church as an institution covering up pedophillia to be disrespectful, but we can't simply ask the world at large to tiptoe around our elaborately constructed, and fragile, denial mechanisms.

We can't ask Catholics to tiptoe around it. Archbishop Rigali is "retiring" because of the level of frustration over his handling of the problems in Philadelphia, and it has the diocese pissed off.
