Why don't you believe in Evolutionary Theory?

They are definitely out there, but it is highly unlikely that they read or post on dcum.

I believe in creation. I do not believe in evolution as the foundation of life, I do believe in adaptation.

PP, may I ask how old your friends are? Having read your post, I imagined a bunch of old ladies in a retirement home. I find it hard to believe that someone younger that 70 can be adamant about '6 days' and 'the rib'..

NP. I have 1 friend who believes this. I am 30 and she is 29. She is a pastors daughter and has a great career, married to a lawyer, high HHI. Not the stereotypical Christain in some ways but believes in a literal interpretation of the bible.blows my mind. We've had some great convos over the years but we now stay away from certain topics bc we know we will never change each others minds. I was a bridesmaid in her wedding and as liberal as they come. I love her as a person but don't understand where her foundation comes from. I suspect she feels the same about me.

My sister's in-laws are in their late 50's and they believe this. They think dinosaur bones were planted by the Devil to confuse us.

It simply shows how desperate OP is to stir up some more anti-religion sentiment.

So - we've identified about 4 creationists that various posters have met, some of them apparently many years ago. And one atheist here is mortally offended by use of the term "believers" to describe people who ... believe in God.

OP, this particular wormhole is a colossal waste of time, go back to bashing catholics or scientologists or mormons or something. DCUM typically rallies much better to these bogeymen.

Believer in God and evolution poster here. Both ladies are in their late 40's. One is a Lutheran minister's daughter and the other is was raised Church of the Brethren and attends a non-specific Protestant church. Both had Christianity, the Bible, etc in their lives from birth, so they have a limited view of other types of beliefs. Both went to college, are very smart. They just can't go with the evolution thing. I don't know why when their is much more evidence for it. I mean the earth is billions of years old!! We know this. I'll stop there.

I actually know quite a few people who believe this. My husband's family, ranging in ages from teens to 70s, believe in creation. And they've tried to convince me and DH - even gave us a book about it. They are all well-educated, kids went to UVA and Texas (they're middle aged now with kids and still believe this). One of the families even lived abroad in both Germany and the Middle East. Just telling you this stuff so you know they aren't just hicks living in some cabin in the woods charming snakes or something. Actually, one branch of the family lived in Oakton for about 25 years. They are well-educated, well-traveled people who believe the world was created in 6 days. I don't understand it but they are among us!

Why are you guys giving OP the time of day? Her only goal here is to mock another type of "believer" (sorry, PP). She has no sincere interest in why anybody believes what they believe. Yesterday she and others were mocking the mormons and the scientologists, today it is the creationists.

OP, you need a new hobby.

Evolutionary theory does not theorize on the foundation of life (I think you're thinking of abiogenesis).

It was in response to a lack of understanding of the very basics of evolution expressed on the Why Don't You Believe in God? thread, which was started by a theist.

Yes, I know that thread. But the fact that it was started by a theist is completely besides the point. In fact, on that thread I was amazed at the persistent calmness of the "believers" responding to all the snark about there religion. The problem, as if it's not obvious, is that this thread was started as yet another attempt to be snarky about religion. As if OP is twelve.

I find that thread very interesting with lots of well thought out responses and the most civil discussion on religion I've ever read on DCUM.

I have to agree. I keep going back, expecting snarky comments, and it's a good thread. (I'm not going there FOR the snarky comments, but it's amazing to me that they're not there).

And yet it's hard to miss the continued snark from the atheists. I do admire the one theologian or whatever she is, who keeps patiently coming back, and she's far from hard-line. But the tolerance is lopsided - it's obviously given grudgingly by some atheists (and the anti-catholic ranter made an ugly appearance on that thread), and all the snide remarks are coming from the atheists. Go back and check.
