What's the point of a routine physical?

I love you.

Don't love her. She is costing you money. Your premiums are higher because of people who neglect routine preventive medicine. If she can actually feel pain because of her high blood pressure, the damage is already done.

I love her, too. The last time I had a physical it was to fill out some forms and the whole thing was utterly useless. The blood work came back basically saying I had borderline high cholesterol, which I have had my entire life -- and nothing else. No test for diabetes, cancer, autoimmune diseases, nothing. The doctor said the insurance didn't cover anything else (thanks for letting me know that ahead of time). The doctor also convinced me that I needed a mammogram for lumpy breasts -- which they just are normally -- and I got all in a panic and had the damn thing which was supposed to be covered by my insurance but, surprise, wasn't. My mammogram came back normal and I was $200 poorer for the pleasure of being told what I already knew. All the fancy heart monitoring equipment attached to the treadmill in the doctor's office just sat there collecting dust (also because my insurance didnt' cover it) so all I got was the doc listening to my heart through the stethoscope. It was a complete waste of time, money and anxiety.

So you would have felt like you got your money's worth if what - you had stage 3 breast cancer? Come on. You have to understand the logic in preventative medicine.

No, I didn't want my money's worth. I shouldn't have let the doctor convince me there was something wrong when I knew there wasn't.

This doesn't make sense. You are saying that the preventive medicine is a waste because you turned out to be healthy. Everybody gets something eventually. You don't have a good chance of finding that thing early unless you get checked out. For a lot of diseases, if you wait until your head is falling off, then it's going to fall off.

Are you serious? No, everybody does not get something eventually. Wow. Can't you imagine just living to a ripe old age and then dying? I was upset because the doctor, the imaging company and the insurance company are all making money off of this ridiculous attitude. I should have just said no.

I'm not the PP but are YOU serious? Yes, everyone DOES get something eventually. You die of SOMETHING. Cause of death is not just "she was old and it was her time."

Let's keep encouraging the Jenny McCarthy troll! I want to continue hearing about the gentle plant that cures cancer every time, yet no one has heard of this plant. And if you ask about the gentle plant, the government's black helicopters (with FDA on the side in yellow letters, I guess) come and storm your house.

Then the jack-booted thugs jump out of the black helicopter and give you cancer (?) I wasn't sure about the delivery mechanism for how the "government" "gives" you cancer.

So let's keep encouraging her/him so we can find out more.

Are you Nell? Were you raised in the wild with no concept of how your body works?

There is more than one person on this thread who isn't buying what you are selling. I happen to be the one who told you to go bury your head back in the AMA's ass. I see you have followed my advice, thank you.

Still waiting to hear what the plant is called that gently cures cancer. I have a feeling you won't be responding. Just a hunch.

You will be found near death in your home wearing a house dress with no teeth in your head and a vermin infested pantry of home made pastes and jars of noxious liquids. Those of us that practice preventative care will have to pay higher premiums to keep you alive as vegetable in a diabetic coma.

It is your awesome right as an American to do this, though.

Wait -- so the black helicopters that descend on your house have the acronym A.M.A. on the side? In yellow letters? Not "FDA"?

You must be the same illiterate medical professional who is posting all throughout this thread.

Show me where I said that there is a plant that gently cures cancer and then I'll answer.

You shills aren't fooling anyone, and really you are probably the same person.

*Yawn* It's time to get a new playbook. Your current one has already been exposed.

16:05: "What's cruel is killing people with chemo and watching them die slowly while there are other options that are much more gentle and much more effective."

And no, dear, I'm not a medical professional, just a woman with a brain. And I'm not responsible for most of the posts saying you're crazy. In fact, I've never called anyone a name on here at all. Why so angry?

Now, what's the name of that plant again?

And 7:27 "they cannot patent a plant."

What's the plant?

Uh, don't have mold in this fight but, you ab-so-f*cking-LUTELY CAN patent a plant. Genetically altered plants are patented all the time. It is illegal to clone them and they generally will not grow from seed because of the genetic mutation.
