Great review on shady Grove...NOT

I am also a SG fan. It was stressful, but they were there when I needed them. After our first IUI I had to have emergency gallbladder surgery. dr. Chang was on the phone with me the next day asking about me. When I found out I was pregnant a couple of months ago and was freaking out about my betas, a nurse who drew my blood (who was not my normal nurse) remembered my fears so took it upon herself to check them for me too. This was at the Sibley location. Finally, when I was diagnosed with HG, Dr Change called a few times. That's all great bed-side manner. Did I feel I was a number in the waiting room? Yes, but only there.

SG has lots of fans and a huge marketing team that probably checks this site regularly so I wouldn't trust anything. We hated it there and I think we would have felt that way even if successful, it is a total factory and I felt much more comfortable with a smaller practice. We haven't gotten a BFP, but I appreciate the effort our current RE and nurses have shown us.

I had a good experience there and said as much to others in recommending it, back when I was not successful (IUIs) and wasn't sure I would be.

I did have one bad experience out of dozens and dozens there, with a female RE. Would never condemn the whole clinic based on that. But I did complain. Overall I liked all else (for the most part) and found it was a good fit for me. It's just about personal fit.

I'd go back and recommend it but I always explain what it's like and how X, Y and Z could be downsides for the person.

Btw I think their lab is kickass.

If I had to make a wild guess I'd say that female RE was Nair--she's incompetent.

I loved SG -- Rockville office. I think a large part of that was due to the nurse we were assigned to. But also, I felt very "looked after," was always able to talk to someone if I had a question, got blood work results quickly, always had monitoring results explained to me. I did have a rather callous u/s tech once -- but I complained and she apologized to me. and we were successful after our second IVF. So for ME, I think SG is the bomb.

I would agree with the PP - SG is run like a well-oiled machine. Some say they feel it is li a factory. I think it is a good thing - it makes them very efficient and on top of things. But I'm not looking for hand-holding or a friend - I want a baby!

While some may make up posts. Why would I lie about my RE calling me after a surgery? I think it depends on who you have and how reasonable your expectations are. I have spoke to friends at other clinics and they have mixed reviews as well.

I would respectively have to disagree with this statement. I am the dreaded AMA (41 in less than 1 month) and was successfully treated by Shady Grove with my own eggs. I am now 14 weeks and everything is going beautifully. I couldn't be happier. I am pleased with my Doctor, my nurse and the staff I have dealt with.

My notes were lost, I was mailed someone else's information (so much for confidentiality), was told to take tests I did not need (again, because I was muddled with another patient)... it was only because I queried everything that these mistakes came to light. We only stayed because we had FEs left and were not successful anyway. Will try elsewhere now, nowhere can be as bad as SG.

My experience has been nothing but chaos. Rotating nurses, never consistent info. And now my insurance seems to be screwed up. I also felt that I was being immediately steered to IVF. And once I saw the doctor the first time, she has ZERO interest in any further contact. Any time I have tried, it is shunted off to a nurse.

COMPLETELY agree with PP.

I disliked the delay in responding to simple questions from SG. It shouldn't take a week and a half to answer a question.

I had a very bad experience with Shady Grove. They were rude and unprofessional. We waited forever for an appointment, only to be told we were "too old." They knew my age prior to the appointment. They totally wasted my time. We then were referred to Columbia Fertility, and we now have twins. Take that Shady Grove and the "you're too old" BS. Don't waste your time and money, go elsewhere.

I'm going to add to the recommendation to go to Sibley location for SG. Hardly anyone goes there and the waiting room is nearly always empty when I have gone for monitoring appts. I FAR prefer it to Rockville, but Rockville has a longer monitoring appt window, so I have gone there on occasion as well.

I am also a SG fan. Both our daughter and son were conceived via IUIs performed by Dr.Greenhouse. He is a great doctor and a nice guy. We named our son after him.

I only had one consult with SG and just didn't get a good feeling from the place so yesterday I had a consult with DF and met the rudest staff member I have ever encountered in a doctor's office. I think she was the office manager, really young, totally immature, and I would venture to say a rageaholic with more authority than her emotional stability can handle.

I like SGF just fine. On the other hand, I had a consult for a 2nd opinion at CFA last Thursday and still haven't gotten a response from their financial coordinator (5 days later). I'll take "factory" over "don't know how to run a business".
