What’s more likely is the college counselor didn’t have the energy to uphold the teacher’s grade. It’s easier to give you what you want and the counselor doesn’t have to worry about fairness the way a teacher does. And I say this as a teacher who let the “razor thin difference” stand for my own child. Because: life lessons and integrity. And each time you refer to the teacher as a “horrible person,” I feel more sympathy for that poor educator who had to deal with this. |
| Look no further than this thread for why our education system is collapsing and teachers are leaving the profession in droves. |
This person should never have become a teacher. She is lazy and egotistical. She doesn't even have an advanced degree. Her approach is to have students watch videos. She does not teach. |
I’m confused. So you are OP, who was asking for insight on how to get a grade raised, but you are also the person whose student had a witch for a teacher and went over the teacher’s head to get the grade changed? Why did you even start this thread? |
| I once reached out to school leaders to get a teachers grading policy changed because it violated the schools policies and the teachers own syllabus. But it’d this is just a subjective case of “the teacher thought this was a b plus essay and I think it’s an A minus essay) I would encourage your kid to meet with the teacher to discuss ways to improve that are not focus on grade but instead on learning. |
| Successfully got a grade changed by threatening to leave (full pay family). Money talks. I actually now get a pre-read of most report cards. Thankfully no other issues have happened since. |
I’ll take Fiction for $600, Alex. |
I'm a teacher at one of the schools posted about frequently on this board and I'd put the odds at 50/50. It should be absurd and impossible but sadly it's not. |
DP and I’d agree with 50/50. It is an absolutely ridiculous story, but there are also ridiculous families. |
And your kid did not learn enough to get an A on their own. And you taught a great lesson in not having any integrity. |

I still recall the 89.6 my son received in reading in third grade and it was a B. Not an A. When I asked the teacher why it wasn’t rounded up, she said she expected more from him bc he was in the higher reading group. In third grade. I did ask the principal who told me in the future that grade would be rounded.
In HS, he had multiple 89.4’s. Never once did he (or we) contact a teacher. Believe it or not, he just graduated HS and was accepted to college despite this. |
|
OP, how do you know the teacher didn't round up to get the grade you currently feel should be bumped up?
Also, of course your child is telling you the teacher is terrible. I'm sure you are having many conversations at home as a family to slander this person. What a terrible parent and terrible person you are. Your kid is going to grow up an entitled jerk with a poor work ethic. |
| Wow this thread is a really good reminder of why I stopped teaching . So tired of cooking the grades for the parents and admin. The worst was when admin who also had kids in the school forced us to do it. |
| This thread is comical and sad and pathetic. |
