Daughter asked teacher who refused the option of doing some extra work for the bump. Daughter was deferred to her dream school and felt the B+ would hurt her chances. College counselor was unsuccessful at convincing teacher to help DD. Got the HOS involved, who was able to get the job done. Teacher is just an awful witch and we are glad to be done with her. Bottom line, have your kid try first and then if all fails, get involved.

what a terrible life lesson

Not at all when you have a witch as a teacher.

as with real life ....

Did she get in to the dream school after she was gifted the higher grade?

Great question.

So the parent bullied the teacher and got admin to change the grade just to appease and calm them down. “Gift” is too kind of a word. I’d say this parent simply “took” the grade they wanted. Ugh. That’s gross, actually.

It also means the kid didn’t really deserve the dream school admission if this fake grade was the deciding factor. I doubt the parent cares, though.

Sometimes you something well and still don’t get the outcome you want. Sometimes life is unfair. The answer isn’t always to fight harder. Sometimes it’s to accept it, learn from it, and move forward.

Have your daughter use the situation to her advantage. One day it may become a great answer to a job interview question, a story about resilience, perspective, and handling disappointment with grace.

I would never hire someone who talked about grade grubbing in high school in a job interview.

Did all the kids in the class - with the same teacher - have their grade raised by admin? Or just OP’s (your?) kid? Have you shared this with all the other parents and/or students?

Didn’t think so.

OP, I discreetly offered the teacher some trim and they accepted. Everybody ended up ahead.

I’ll take fiction for $200, Alex.

We had an enormous problem with a teacher who gave my DC a B+ on essay that should have been an A+. We even pointed her to the school magazine which showed that we were a top donor for three years running - AND STILL SHE DIDN'T budge. Adding insult to injury, in a meeting with the teacher and the HOS, the teacher said she had given my DC a break since she didn't take off for factual errors and a grammar problem. This is still an unresolved issue. Left with no other recourse, we are considering a lawsuit.

OP here...because it was a razor thin difference, it made total sense for my kid. I believe there was probably others, and honestly, we didn't even bring it up initially. The college counselor working with my kid is the one who initiated it all, likely because this teacher is such a horrible person.

Um this definitely happens there. Entitled families.

Riiight. The counselor initiated. Totally believable.
