Well, I like it, but it's way too much effort for half the family and we end up with a lot extra. But acting like it's the easiest thing in the world isn't exactly true. |
I don't like lumps in potatoes and it's pretty hard to get a perfect mash this way. |
| I do use instant potato flakes when I bake potato rolls or bread. A total time aver for thst sort of thing. And you can use pure dehydrated potatoes, so it’s not like it’s poison or something. |

Boil, drain, keep tiny bit of water in the pot, has butter, add milk, salt and pepper, mash in the pot with the potato masher
Yum |
| Results are better if you mash the potatoes in the pot, they were cooked in because the pot is still warm |
I love the lumps. I hate it when people are great mashers. Same with guacamole |
Acting like it’s the hardest thing is also not true. Scalloped potatoes. Now that’s hard. |
Yeah. Seriously, I didn’t know people did this. I thought the only people that used these were poor people shopping the food pantries since they are self stable |
I don’t peel. I just chop, boil, drain, add butter, milk/cream, salt and pepper and mash with a hand masher right in the pot. So easy. I like them a bit chunky and rustic |

Mashed potatoes are a layup. Not messy nor difficult with a well prepared station - execution is guac territory difficulty.
I imagine a scratch eggs Benedict would have some kitchens here looking like a Jackson Pollok. |
DP. I use a ricer. On the topic though, I will make instant if I don't have energy for the real thing. For instance, if it's a comfort food during an illness. For Thanksgiving, instant would never be used. |
Follow a recipe and use a masher instead. It's really not hard. https://www.southernliving.com/recipes/perfect-mashed-potatoes People that peel potatoes more than three times a year can do it quickly. In fact, I was just peeling my potatoes for today's dinner while reading DCUM. I can't help you with potato bits all over because that doesn't happen to me. |
There are lots of ways to use leftover mashed potatoes. |
Mashed potatoes have lumps, whipped potatoes do not. |
If you think it's messy or a pain you're not doing it right. Or you're just a bad cook. |
