Not everything is strictly about the w schools. It’s a safety and liability issue. How much are your kids spending? Eating out daily is $$ |
But, why should they have to pack meals from home because the school runs out of food and they've decided no open lunch? Another reason my kid will be super happy to be done with MCPS. -RM parent, where they have open lunch. |
Have you ever been near Blair at lunch time. It's not really so closed. |
My kids bought lunch once a week over at G Square and packed their lunch the other days. Slice of pizza at Flippin isn’t that much. |
Or they just bought something at Giant. |
<$10 |

Oh my. This is embarrassing. Brenda Wolff confused Woodmoor, the Silver Spring neighborhood across Blair HS, with Woodmont, the neighborhood in Bethesda. She also didn't realize Blair HS has a closed lunch policy because she sees so many kids at the restaurants in the Woodmoor shopping center during the lunch hour... It really seems that Open Lunch's days in MCPS are numbered. |
|
Julie Yang is fighting on behalf of Bethesda moms to delay the decision on suspending or eliminating the Open Lunch policy really hard, citing the need for meaningful community engagement, which she does not believe can be done over the summer.
That's rich coming from her and this board! |
|
Brenda is not letting up. She's moving the Open Lunch policy discussion to the full board, against Julie's objections.
The SMOB is the one to second, which is odd, since I imagine there's a meaningful portion of the student body that wants to keep the Open Lunch policy. Why didn't they have Natalie Zimmerman second? |
|
Brenda, Natalie and Anuva all voted to move the discussion on the future of the Open Lunch policy at the next Board Business meeting in May.
Will be interesting what happens there. |
This year’s SMOB has been terrible. |
| If your students care about this, they should contact SMOB asap as next vote is 5/20 |
That's $50 a week, $200 a month, so yes, its expensive. |
Because the two of them are bullies. |
MCPS could just cater the W school lunches. Make it like a wedding, bring in tables, chairs, linens, etc. |
