TT trying to eliminate open lunch

Anonymous
I heard TT is trying to eliminate HS open lunch over the summer before next school year. Thoughts?

Is that when one of his kid(s) enters a high school that has open lunch?

He lives in the BCC area but not sure if his kids go there, private or another school.

Where does he propose the nearly 3000 kids eat at WJ?

There will be much less soon. Our kids eat in the halls, classrooms, etc.

Any kids are grown. No kids in his house.

Soon isn’t next year. And no, they should not have to sit in the floor in the hall or use teacher’s classrooms. At the very least upperclassmen should be able to leave for lunch.

Unfortunately the high school cafeterias (like WJ) can’t accommodate the entire school (3000 students) for lunch.
And are we really going to expect the kids to eat on the floor in the hallways?

But yes, open lunch certainly presents a safety issue.

Open lunch is a safety issue in what way? We had it back in the 1980s at our middle/high school. (Yes, some districts still had them combined back then.) We went out daily, as the school was smack center of town. You could eat anywhere. (And, no, there was not enough space in the cafeteria.)

Indeed! Unless he plans to build us five 600-student schools over the summer, just like the nice suburb I grew up in where everyone could fit in the lunchroom during 1 of 3 periods for lunch instead of the over-populated schools of MoCo.

Sorry, no. I don’t pay astronomical taxes for my kid’s teachers to have their raises taken away, special education resources gutted, class size increases and my kids to sit on the floor between lockers to eat their food. Something has to give.

I’m sorry that’s not good enough. Maybe they can open up the gym and put oriental rugs, fancy tables and chairs with cloth tablecloths and napkins and have it catered.

Even way back when when they had several periods very few ate in the cafeteria and ate all over the school.

What lockers? You all get lockers and seating? Our school doesn’t even have enough seating for classes.

He won't be able to, kids will revolt. There is literally no space for every high schooler to eat inside, unless you want to do it East Asian style, where every kid eats at his desk!
