UChicago's crazy 88% yield rate is a result of taking 80% of the class ED.

So what! Yes most colleges fill up their class during some for of ED/EA...

Wow, what’s most interesting to me about this is that a fair number of UCs have higher acceptance rates for international students vs. in-state students. I knew some schools have higher out-of-state acceptance rates because they need more money, but I’d be pissed if I was a California resident.

International students focus on Cal and UCLA where the international acceptance rates are low. And both probably have about the same percentage of international students on campus as other UCs, if not slightly more. The bottom line number is what matters.

UCs get an enormous number of in state applicants which explains the difference. They aren’t privates which get a more varied cross section applicants from all over the US and the world.

Why on earth would colleges reject highly qualified students who are an excellent fit and have clearly demonstrated that the school is their first choice through ED??
