So? That is literally what many schools in the 30-60 range are like. Do you think the college does not know 50%+ of their applicants are applying to multiple T25 schools? Do you think the college does not know that 50% of their applicants would attend those T25 schools if accepted?

My kid had 2 of their 3 final choices like this: CWRU and Rochester. Both are filled with very smart kids, most of whom are there because they didn't get into any of the T25 schools they applied to as well. Go check out the school newspapers, it's a running joke at both that they are "filled with ivy rejects". My kid is at one of them and of their 15+ good friends, ALL of them had at least one of the following: WL, Spring Start, fall sophomore start at 2 or more T30 schools. They all have the resume/qualifications/make good candidates for those schools but with 90%+ rejection rates, they didn't get a fall freshman year acceptance. So that's where they ended up (CWRU or Rochester). Most of those kids get great jobs and/or are going onto graduate school/professional school at TOP places. So yes, they are T25/30 "rejects" who never looked back and continued to learn and excel at life, just not at a T25 school.

Also, both of those schools are not in the "best/most exciting" locations, so they will loose students to similar ranked schools in a "better town"---nobody goes there and plans to stay after graduation (like happens at Boston or Chicago schools, etc).

Nothing is wrong is ED. It's a part of the system. A lot of high stat kids are committing. That's what yield is.

I think they should have to publish two numbers: overall and the yield without excluding ED.

Northeastern has a 43% admit rate in ED and they take half their class in ED.

So any modestly average student can get in if they want to if they ED to Northeastern. But with the all the games they play, they can still show a 5% admit rate!

You need to look behind the numbers a little bit.

Because much of the UChicago bashing is based on guesses. They don't release any ED data, so everything is simply a conjecture, and often those statements are incorrect and misleading. Northeastern is much more transparent about its numbers, and there's no reason to speculate.
