He was in Brokeback Mountain. He gave a great and convincing performance. Unfortunately, I also think that wonderful and convincing performance became a mental block for a lot of women to see him in a different way.

I disagree BM gave women a "mental block". If Heath Ledger had lived, he would have had a prolific career after playing gay in BM. I think JG is fine but he and his sister (2 nepo babies) are not nearly as transformative as actors as they think they are. They are fine, but they aren't Daniel Day Lewis. They spent a large part of the prime of their career being too choosy about doing great indie films. Those don't make money and the really great materials go to actors like Bale and Blanchet who are out of their league. If you watch Brokeback Mountain again, JG's performance was the 4th best out of the 4 leads, and he isn't really that good looking. He looks puppy cute, but the audience who would fall for puppy cute are all Team Taylor. If you line him up along the 4 Chrises and 2 Ryans, he would be the 7th best looking or bankable guy, that's why he isn't a bigger star.

Okay help me out? Ryan Reynolds, Ryan Gosling, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, and who are the other two Chrises?

Chris Pine must be one

Chris Pratt is prob the other blanked on his name for a min

This is the article, supposedly about him. His sister is referenced too.

+1. Heath did an incredible job as The Joker after BM.

1. You're all assuming he gives a shit about being a star. There's no indication that that is what motivates him at all.

2. Speculating about his sexual orientation is disgusting. Y'all need to get a life.

He’s got a huge head and that droopy dog look.

he's too scrawny.

Maggie *is* a b. Can personally attest. Her new movie also looks terrible and had an awful opening. I will begrudgingly say I liked the last film she directed, The Lost Daughter, though how much of that is owed to Olivia Colman being one of my favorite directors is hard to say.

Never met Jake, but he feels appropriately rated as an actor for me. He makes interesting choices sometimes, but I think of him as kind of a character actor for indie movies, not a big budget leading man. He's done some action movies but he doesn't have that blend of charisma, humor, and sex appeal to make that work the way other actors do. I think of Harrison Ford as the platonic ideal for that kind of role and Jake comes off as neurotic and humorless next to him. Jake is not "dashing" he's just kind of cute in a normal way.

He’s always been pretty famous.

Also he had sort of a gross reputation for taking advantage of barely legal girls before his current relationship. That probably didn’t help.

I really like him, but I heard he's difficult to work with. He's done some really great movies.

I think he just doesn't have a good fit in Hollywood. A lot of the really good directors (like Denis Villeneuve, with whom he did a couple of movies) have gotten very commercial and have chosen male leads accordingly. I could see him in a David Fincher movie if the stars align, but right now it's all so commercial.

I find him more charming than Leo personally (who leans histrionic to me).

Exactly. Taylor wasn’t wrong. Read this - he’s awful:

I've heard he a real life jerk.

He can’t act and he isn’t cute or charming enough to get by on looks or charm.

Go watch him on SNL. Painful.

Those with looks and/or charm can standout on SNL. It’s a great benchmark imho.

Glenn Powell was hilarious on SNL. And just seemed so likeable and fun.
