Supporting the off-cycle, politically-driven increases in cut scores

I see recommendations to adopt a better curriculum and actually use it, allow homework in elementary schools, allocate math specialists based on students who need them, provide more detail about pass scores, etc. These seem pretty reasonable, honestly.

Agree. I don’t see the conspiracy here?

There is no "conspiracy".

I don't want people who push RW, anti-public-school propaganda to have a voice in our schools. YMMV.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a factor in shutting down the committees.

You come off a bit crazy, TBH. More likely they are a time sink that isn’t worth it.

You come off a bit naive.

You're right, people who disagree with you should be excluded from volunteering in APS. I think you should start working on a list of all the people guilty of wrongthink who need to be excluded. I think ACDC should also install a Kommissar for every committee. Their job can be to look out for ideological deviations, and they should be empowered to enact swift justice on those who fall away from the party orthodoxy. Why rely on whisper campaigns and anonymous internet postings when we could just bring all this activity out in the open, where we can be proud of it? This sounds like a good system.

I have no problem with people who disagree with me volunteering for APS - I'm friends with some of them and volunteered along side them - but I do have a problem with people who push misinformation.

Could you share an example of the misinformation that is being pushed in any of the committees?

The committees did provide value at one point (ie, science of reading), but if they are now filled with people pushing misinformation then they certainly aren't worth the time.

Where is the misinformation in the committee recommendations that were posted?

Strawman. I never said it was included in that one example of committee recommendations.

The misinformation was posted on Bacon's Rebellion, Facebook, etc.

No. You are insane and the title of the thread is “changes to APS advisory committees.” You need to support your claim that this committee has been pushing anti-public school propaganda. Otherwise you are just trashing the work of all the people on the committee for no reason.

Hi APE! Don’t you have a bacon’s rebellion column to write?

I never made that claim. Go back and re-read instead of making shit up.

It's not my fault that you're having trouble following the discussion.

Where exactly was that claim made?

They've been infested with APEs who don't even have kids in APS and are trying to push their anti-public school agenda.

While I seriously doubt this- you do illustrate the problem with the current system. Its super easy with anyone for an ax to grind to seize control of one of these committees, and suck up staff resources.

At least one of the APE guys on the math committee doesn’t have kids in APS and writes MAGA propaganda about schools on a RW blog.

Why is he on an APS committee when his kids are not in APS?

His kids are probably in pre-k. Many parents like to get involved before their kids begin at APS.

I'm on the math committee and have no idea who you are talking about. Its a great committee full of thoughtful people.

Love how he claims to be a Dem when he was in bed with Youngkin Admin.

Says right in the bio his kids are in APS. And on two state level commissions.

Political donations have been entirely to Dems.

Anons on DCUM spewing misinformation about people with a public footprint again. Dude has kids in APS and more than $7000 of donations to Dem candidates. What else you got on this guy that's wrong?

There are a couple people on this site who absolutely cannot believe you can be a democrat and find any fault with APS or the Arlinton Democratic party.

It is a choice that someone posts another VPAP donation history. And from looking at it, like Miranda, he is a DINO.

Though it is interesting that he has such sway with the Hillsdale College/PragerU/Charter School-esque VBOE.

Donations don't mean squat. A lot of people donate to pols they don't agree with in order to try to get influence. I think it's interesting he has 7K to donate! I don't hae that $ lying around. And until very recently, dude's kids were in private while he lobbied in his MAGA APE group for changes to public school and sat on public school committees.

A guy this tight with Youngkin is not a real Dem. Nope, no way. Nice try though trying to defend your APE MAGE buddy!

What is very recently? Everything you posted about this poor guy turns out to be misinformation.

You sound crazy if you think somebody has enrolled their kids in public and is donating $7000 to Dem candidates to take down public education.

https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/arlington/Board.nsf/files/DQLNGJ5FDF71/$file/B-3.6.30%20Combined.pdf

I served on the ACTL/ACI for several years. I was always conflicted on whether it was a really valuable thing or just a massive waste of time and resource suck for APS staff. There were all these subject matter subcommittees. Theoretically they were appointed by the school board, but in reality anyone who wanted to be on one could. They each had a staff member assigned, and frequently I felt like the recommendations coming out of the subcommittees were a few individuals pet projects that were sucking up resources. Some of them were just insane. (e.g. calling for an 'equity audit' across the entire curriculum.) They commonly involved adding more central office staff, and they also consumed a significant amount of central office staff time.
On the other hand, the english language advisory committee did heroic work pushing year after year for the science of reading and against lucy calkins. I'm curious about others thoughts..

OP I'm curious why you feel these are a massive time suck for APS staff. On the committee I have been on for several years, one APS staff member attends one meeting once a month. Between meetings there are occasionally an email or two that receive short answers. The staff ask committee members to review things or them from time to time, so we do help staff also. Do other committees use more staff time? How? If there are some committees where staff are too involved or the committee is asking too much from staff, I think that is an issue to be addressed with that committee, not a reason to throw out the whole system.
