Should’ve applied EA

GPA is too low. Last year's class had a 4.33 at the 75th percentile, and a 4.14 at the median. Especially if applying for engineering or unhooked.

I also think th 1590 indicates the GPA could and should have been higher.

This, exactly. a 1590 is an exceptional SAT score. a 4.1 is not an exceptional GPA. The disconnect can make AOs think the kid didn't try/didn't care about classwork/grades.

Plus all of the other pieces we have talked about ad nauseum - ECs, VT essays.

To me it says ADHD.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Sounds like a twice exceptional kid; gifted, but has executive functioning differences or ADHD. I am a high school teacher and see this frequently.

pls stop the ADHD bs. none of us know anything abt the kid .

focus!! (maybe u guys have adhd.. !)

Catholic school nuns in the 1960s could cure ADHD with a few beatings

Yes, maybe if we take the UVA-bound kid with the near perfect SAT score and beat him enough, he’ll begin to look acceptable to VT.

It's disgusting how people accepted violence against children.

Or a boy that took a bit longer to mature. Not uncommon for smart boys to have lower grades in 9th and 10th and high grades once they reach 11th.

OR a girl who is late diagnosed with inattentive ADHD. VERY common profile, especially when they have high IQ/processing but low working memory. These kids do great on tests (especially when they have focused tutors) but struggle in younger years with projects/assignments with multiple parts.

That’s criminal. Now this kid has to pay OOS tuition after doing everything right. He should have gotten into VT. It’s simply yield protection. And I said what I said. We have no dog in this fight. My kid didn’t apply to any instate (VA) schools and is attending her first choice SLAC.

That’s not necessarily yield protection (which, again, VT denies using as an admissions factor). That’s VT wanting to bring in OOS tuition dollars. It’s just much less competitive for OOS applicants.

DP but it likely took less than a minute to create that from asking gen AI.

You could have Cs and still get a 4.1 in Fairfax County.
