What is your childcare plan and why isn’t it in place? Oh I see. FCPS is your childcare.

i don’t have a childcare plan for 2 weeks. i have no family close by. my husband leaves extremely early for work. we aren’t part of SACC. what do you expect me to do? i work part time. from 9:30-3:30 while my kids are in school. on days where they are scheduled off i take off. but days where they don’t go in until 11:20 i can’t show up at work at 12. it doesn’t work. and fcps wasn’t even telling families until 4pm daily earlier in the week. i am sure a lot of families are struggling with the late starts. maybe not middle school who goes early or high school who can get themselves to school. but for elementary it’s hard. not to mention kids are behind in learning, teachers say there isn’t time to get it all done, kids are missing weeks of specials. it’s winter. we live in an area where we get snow. it’s been 2 weeks since we had snow. it’s time to go back to a normal schedule

You either have to take off work or maybe give up the part time job then. FCPS cannot make choices based on your odd work schedule, sorry.

2 things can be true:

Delayed start because of cold.
Tough for working parents.

No need for the nasty snark. I have a husband who had to be at work for years very early. Fortunately, our financial circumstances allowed me to stay home during that period of our life. Not everyone has that option. And, child care in these circumstances is quite different from the normal.

While I understand the frustration, I think casting aspersions at people is unnecessary and says a lot more about the attacker than the attacked.

Check the weather for Monday. There is no place in Fairfax County with a low temperature in the single digits, even at 3 in the morning.

But wind chills will be in the mid to low single digits while kids are at bus stops. Delay is highly likely. We don’t live in the north where people are hardier in general.

How are people in the north "hardier"?

They just put on the appropriate weather gear and get on with it.

The average person in Fairfax County is weak and soft, like Reid. We will likely have a delay on Monday

You sound like a privileged dbag.

I can't believe some of you want a delay because of the Super bowl. Do any of you want your kids educated? We have had so much closures this year. It is criminal. We are about to have another 4 day weekend.

Let this sink in!!!

Reid is a big fan of the Seahawks. If they win, we get a delay. If they lose, we’re on time. I’m calling it here.

There was no nasty snark in my post at all. The choice is either continue to take off work or give up the part time job. FCPS is not going to trump your job over safety, sorry.

This is late-stage capitalism, people. You don't want school to be childcare but the reality is that it is childcare for a lot of students,(among MANY other things). Blame society, this is simply where we're at.

You could use those 2 hours to educate your own children in whatever ways they are lacking. Mine are OK. Although they do use the extra morning time for exercise, music, and extra reading which is great for them. I dont think their academic future is at risk with another delay. You should look in to extra resources if yours are.

The privilege reeks! Do you understand some kids have learning disabilities or some parents don't have the resources to do what the schools should be doing

Mine play on the PlayStation and the Switch. They are doing fine academically and being safe inside seems better than walking on ice in -1 temps in the dark.

We are way too coddled here. Everywhere else, the kids get to school, in way worse conditions. Stop making it so complicated. Leave earlier, wear an extra jacket, suck it up.

Yeah, like they really lose so much education from not sitting in school an extra 2 hours. High school students would just miss advisory tomorrow, which is a complete waste of time.

Or delay for two hours. That’s not complicated.

Might as well homeschool, right?

Why even bother sending the kids to school if missing it doesn't matter...
