To be fair, the roads and sidewalks are not the school district's responsibility. The County Council should really be dealing with it. That doesn't mean Taylor is blame free, but it does once again beg the question of what the point of having a seprate BOE is if the County Council or the super is responsible for everything in reality.

I'm a first year teacher who has no grading responsibilities. I am literally going to go sit in my office and stare at a wall for 8 hours and have fun doing it. Might have to irish up my coffee a bit.

The schools u have seen seemed plowed. It’s the neighborhood sidewalks that aren’t. Kids will need to walk in the street to get to school. And most streets aren’t fully plowed so it will be hard to have 2 busses passing each other as it’s is. Now add kids on the street to the mess.

I'm fine with him just resigning in disgrace.

Leaders have to make tough and unpopular decisions sometimes. You don’t know all the variables that went into the decision he made.

We know what he's chosen to tell us. Which is nonsensical given the snow isn't going anywhere. He clearly doesn't have a real plan for reopening. Whether you agree with tomorrow's closure or not, that shouldn't be acceptable to anyone.

He and the staff he has chosen to lead district operations are not qualified to run MCPS. Thomas, Adnan, and Cat should all resign.

The need more time to dig out. More time for people to clear the unshoveled sidewalks that are used by students to walk to and from schools. More time to get the snow banks out of the crosswalks and corner of bus routes. They going out to the 5200 miles of roads around the largest county in MD.

Yeah, the lack of even submitting a virtual learning plan for this year is total malpractice on his part. Too scared of all the whiny "noooo, anything with the words Virtual Learning in it must be terrible and I will fight it to the death" folks on here, presumably. But part of being a leader is doing the right thing for kids even when it'll make people mad at you.

(Also, if the damn virtual learning haters would just shut up, that would be nice too. No one is going to force your kids into a whole year of virtual, we promise, so get a grip. Freaking out about a few days of it is absolutely ridiculous.)

Obviously people disagree with you. The district can and should make up school days. Virtual is not a good alternative to actual school days.

But it is a good alternative to the half days we're gonna get at the end of the year

Then invite your students to come in.

Sure, the County Council is responsible for roads and sidewalks, but my understanding is that many MCPS parking lots and campuses were also behind on getting cleared and Taylor said it was because they were focused on working with the county.

I checked the MCPS website. It looks like they created a snow removal efforts album on their webpage because so many MCPS parents are crazy's.

The county is bad, but somehow Taylor and MCPS are even worse. He has no idea what he's doing. Replace him with someone who has worked in a northern state.

And raise taxes in the county by 10% to give him the funding to handle this scenario

Instead let’s cut the home office employees by 20% to handle this scenario.

It's going to be hilarious when plows can't follow this call to action to work around the schools because all the teachers are parked on the neighborhood roads.

The message said schools are ready, this sounds more like bus stops, busses getting through streets that have snow piled up on each side and walkways are the issue.

Our neighborhood is unsafe and not passable. They need to go virtual.

Teachers and staff with no childcare responsibilites are going to have parties in the hallways tomorrow. BYOD.

Raising taxes famously never caused any problem whatsoever, especially considering that MoCo is already behind economically.

No, it isn't. I'm not happy with what they did last year, but at least that creates some pressure to hold real school days. Parents aren't going to put up with MCPS doing what they did last year. And if it continues, MSDE will come down on them just like they did with virtual.
