UNC announced decisions

UNC considered legacy for OOS, but I am not sure if that is still the case. My kid got in and she is legacy. We thought legacy could have moved the needle with UNC. She also got into a few other great schools in the last few days. She is very happy.

Yikes. You ok? I have done real research. I’m also an alumna with a junior who may be applying next year so I’ve done recent research. OOS legacy applicants do get an extra review. That may not be the bump you consider preferential treatment but to me it is, especially with AI reviewing applications (which Carolina does). A legacy counts as a parent or a grandparent. It doesn’t put them in the instate pile like it used to for UVA OOS, but they sort of get their own pile. I do think alumni believe their kids get a real boost and then are disappointed when their kid gets denied. Basically I think if in committee it comes down to 2 kids who seem to have identical scores, grades, EC, they may push for that legacy kid to differentiate.

It’s still basically a lottery. Hope your day gets better and you aren’t so snippy anymore. GDTBATH.

DS is full pay and was admitted OOS honors college last year

I think legacy helps for OOS. Don’t know how many got in from our school, but both kids who already decided to attend are legacies. Good students but not top of the class.

Legacies get an additional review. My DC saw the admission file; 1st reviewer recommended waitlist, 2nd reviewer decided to admit.

AI only grades the essays.

Did UNC release honors decision at the same time as ea ooo? I ask because DD is in, but the letter does not mention honors.
Also, does UNC give any merit at all, like Pitt does?

Yes, full pay. I have to say that OOS tuition at $43k a year is way more appealing than UMich's $63k a year.

OOS full pay.
Honors was not mentioned in acceptance letter.
If admitted to the business school, is there still honors and she just didn’t get offered? Not sure how it all works, yet.
