I shoveled 3x yesterday and still woke up to a 2+ inch crust of ice across every surface. |
We did too and struggled until a neighbor loaded us a metal spade. Used it to easily break through the ice and then shoveled it away. I think it was only possible because we shoveled so much yesterday. |
I don't get this. We all live in the same small county. It stopped precipitating by 8pm last night. We all went out for one last shovel and today we have clear sidewalks and driveway. No ice. |
Sorry but this is ridiculous. Get out there with a sturdy garden type shovel and go at the hard packed snow and break it up. Then shovel. I am a 51 year old woman and did this just fine. If you are not able bodied, pay a teenage neighbor. Many are in my neighborhood and are available. Post on next door if you can’t find one. It’s your responsibility. Deal with it. |
As someone who has a large stretch to shovel and who spent 6 hours outside yesterday and 4 today, I will say that this snowfall is uniquely difficult to clear. I have a couple of patches that literally will not budge. You can get upset about it all you want, but the reality is that you’re going to see a lot of uncleared sidewalks in the next several days. And I have to say, the fact that arlington hasn’t plowed in front of our house other than to block us in with the snow pushed from an intersecting road makes me feel like the county is also not doing a perfect job. I’ll be surprised if we go back this week. |
We've done our cars and sidewalks, but our street hasn't been done at all and it's plowed in from the cross streets so we really can't get out. |
|
Arl Co just suspended the snow ordinance due to the ice/sleet circumstances which means no requirement to shovel sidewalks in 36 hours.
This means likely NO SCHOOL all week. And dont expect sidewalks maintained by the county to be shoveled either! |
How are you so special that you are the one house without ice? |
No ice because the last shovel was after the precipitation stopped. Its not special, its common sense. |
Good for you. You must have a smaller driveway than some of us, which is fine. We were too tired to go out in the dark, again, and couldn’t do it one more time. The entire family had been shoveling every 1-2 hours all day to try to keep up on it and now we are dealing with the ice and used real shovels all day today and barely made a dent. Whatever, we tried. |
| * real shovels as in garden shovels to break it up. |
No, large steep driveway on a corner lot. |
No ice here in 22207. |
I cant tell if this is a play on words.....? |
| Clarendon is horrible. People were spinning out all over the place and you can barely walk because the sidewalks are not clear at the crosswalks. Then it’s all going to freeze back up tonight. |
