I went to TT schools for undergrad and MBA. I have very close friends in senior roles at top consulting, banking, hedge fund, etc.
For those of you who don't know, the so-called experts name-dropping top firms and making assumptions about them here generally don't know what they are talking about. So don't be intimidated by them (it seems like most of you aren't anyway). It is a new form of sad when people try to act so knowledgeable and impressive and are so condescending when in fact they have no idea what they are talking about. People who actually went to the top schools and worked at the top firms generally wouldn't be acting like this. They usually (but not always) have more class and "act like they've been there before." |
Asian striver is strong in you. |
| Time to read Dream School by Jeffrey Selingo, folks! |
How is you dropping your TT school and your friends (ie, not you) working in senior roles different from posters here name dropping firms? In both cases, it’s an appeal to legitimacy. I’ll go one step further than you and say that I personally have worked in senior roles at top consulting, banking, hedge fund roles (mostly HF and banking, did a short stint of tech consulting). And I would agree with the bulk of what previous replies have said. Talent is most densely concentrated at our best schools. |
It wasn’t in the 90s when OP went to college so that’s why her perspective is off. |
Well- I drive the Toyota with the Ivy sticker on the back. Lol Never cared what car I drove. It’s for getting from point A to B and we live in a 96-walk score neighborhood so don’t drive much anyways. We did prioritize education over cars and brands. |
Lol.. u obviously prioritize brands.. colleges/Ivy brands. You think only those who went to Ivy schools prioritize education? You don’t seem very bright given your Ivy background. |
But not over real estate, I see. |
No. Where you choose to live is one of the biggest sources of happiness or not. Location, location, location |
+1 One of mine went to North Carolina State for Engineering I was not happy. when he chose that school because he had way better offers. In the end he has done as well or even better than his siblings (Stanford, CMU, Yale) who are all more than fine, but essentially the same outcome. He had a great college experience. I also think it is kid dependent. Mine are all super independent my guess is they would have been good anywhere. |
So true. For example, it’s Oliver Wyman not whatever PP wrote above (Oliver White?). |
| I agree OP! My DH went to a no name college back home. He established a software company and now has Ivy and Ivy plus grads working for him. |
| Bump. A reminder to those entering the spring season of junior year. |
