Its an off season practice by a sports team. The VHSL has very specific rules on when they can happen, how long they can be, etc. The main thing is they 100% have to be open to any student at the school. Some coaches get around this by playing games with not announcing the schedule in any public way and just telling the players they want there to show up. |
Well, both things can be true at the same time. A coach can hate club players or players from a particular club, and pp's kid was cut. |
| With more clubs going MLS Next and therefore becoming ineligible for HS ball (like NVA) it should become easier for boys in FFX public schools to make a team. The MLS clubs pull in kids from across FFX county so those really good players can't play anymore for HS. you still have to compete with the ECNL boys though. |
| Will not make an impact. Only a few clubs across all of NoVa are MLS Next, and seniors can say eff it. |
Who cares about the seniors. They are not trying out for JV. The freshman, sophomores, and juniors can't play HS if they are MLS. And there are plenty of MLS clubs now--way more than before as they added all the various layers. Doing back of envelope math-- @400 high level players who are freshman, sophomores and juniors won't be in the tryout pool due to Bethesda, NVA, Alexandria, Achilles, SYC, DC United (22 per age group, 3 age groups across 6 clubs). That certainly only helps chances for those trying out for HS. Now of course, not all of those ineligible players are going to FFX county schools-but certainly there is a decent chunk who are given proximity.... |
| MLS Next 2 players can play in high school righr? |
Yes. Restriction is only with MLS Next 1 players. |
Not sure how much of a noticeable impact that will make given only SYC is even in Fairfax, but maybe. |
| Fingers crossed all those MLS kids stay away and give my lowly NCSL guy a chance at the JV squad lol. |
| Have the player go into tryouts in shape and work on intensity and being physical on and off the ball. If the kid wants to make the team they will start preparing now for it or should have started in November. Most kids outside the higher level club ball will lack the discipline to start training for it early and the coach will be able to recognize this. |
Its innate athleticism, not discipline or bring "in shape", that separates most of the kids who play at the higher levels from kids who play in NCSL. |
| Must be freshman parents who think the MLSNext kids don’t play…SYC and Alexandria do combined practices at the older ages in the Spring. Lots of talk, but no one actually cares. |
Plenty of FFX players at all those clubs- Alexandria and NVA in particular but also others . Many kids who play club are not playing in the same county they go to school in . They play where they can get the best roster spot . MLS getting much harder on HS. They are now expelling kids who are getting caught sneaking HS so there may be more management of it than in the past…plus all those DCU kids now have to go to online school so they are out of FFx schools all together … |

How is MLS Next getting hard? .

Sent this to my friends husband that is the coach. He said they have had Green Day’s twice a week since November and it’s posted everywhere. Also students must have sports physicals to try out. |
