It’s all talk, I have never seen a kid get expelled from playing high school that was MLS next. My son has played varsity since he was a freshman and honestly I think it improved his game more than MLS next did his freshman and sophomore year. He was not a starter on his MLS next team but after playing high school he started and now is one of the top players on his team and will be playing division 1 soccer. He also did grow a lot 10th grade which helped as well. |

You really think HS soccer improved your benched kid? LOL.
|
Yes as a 9th and 10th grader he was playing with and against senior mls next players (along with top encl players) and was asked to play at a much higher speed than his age group was playing at MLS next. High school soccer depending on what district is much higher than people think. Good 17 and 18 players are almost all better than 14 year olds playing at dc United. Well maybe not better from a technical standpoint but it a lot of other way they are. By the time he was a junior I would say MLS next was higher than high school but there is something about high school that pushes players to find that little extra effort. |
In the DMV, the best players don't even play for their high school team. |
My team had 6 mls next players on it last year and it’s seems like the very top of the MLS next teams are playing high school. They will play every minute they can at that it why the kids who are going ACC and top division college soccer are playing both MLS next and High school. |
| Do the top players typically attend all the high school practices or are they allowed to skip them for club practices? |
Usually skip a lot depending on mls schedule. Even missing a few games. Some just do both every day for the love of the game. Depends on high school coach but most coaches can work it out. |
| Interesting. Other high school sports require attendance at practice and prioritizing the high school sport. |
I think it’s similar to swim even some basketball, as long as your child is missing practice/games because they are attending other soccer events most coaches are okay. When they miss to other things is when coaches get upset. At least that is the consensus from our parent group across about 10 high schools. |
LMAO! No one is allowed to skip HS basketball practices for any reason other than illness. |
Maybe 10 years ago. We have 1 or 2 starters that sit out after every game. But manage to play in all the games. Basketball doesn’t nearly have the overlap that swim or soccer has. Plus most top tier basketball players are going to private high school now a days |
Is this public school? Our large FCPS public school coaches would not tolerate this. |
Yes, FCPS school that makes states regularly. Coaches are not going to punish the best players bc they are tired and sore at the Varisty level. The three players I’m referring play a lot of basketball over the course of a year. |
