Why is KLI so much faster this year?

My frame of reference is the girls, but it was tough to crack the 13-14 finals without sectional cuts with the exception of yesterday’s 100 free and 200 IM, which I’m guessing may have been somewhat related to being on the last day (although the girls in the 200 back yesterday had 14/16 put down sectional cuts at finals). It was impressive that these events on the girls side weren’t dominated by 14 year olds either, there were 13 year olds making finals and getting sectional cuts.

For most girls there is very little difference developmentally between a 13 and 14 year old. For boys, a very different story and the 13 year old boys making finals are the ones who had precocious puberty. I agree about the depth of the meet!

13 is not precocious puberty for a boy. That’s a medical term used for puberty earlier than the normal range. 13 is normal.

It is normal for starting puberty/early stages. These 13 years olds are not starting - they are already full grown men with full height/muscles/hair. They started years ago (earlier than normal).

A 13 year old boy with muscles is pretty normal. If he has a mustache and beard though, watch out, he's probably very fast.

Tanner stages Age at the start Noticeable changes
(in males)
Stage 1 After the 9th or 10th birthday None
Stage 2 Around age 11 Pubic hair starts to form
Stage 3 Around age 13 Voice begins to change or “crack”; muscles get larger
Stage 4 Around age 14 Acne may appear; armpit hair forms
Stage 5 Around age 15 Facial hair comes in

Good lord, you are being really pedantic. The point is that a 13 year old boy who is well into puberty and already has a man body is an earlier developer. And those are the only 13 year olds making finals at a meet like this (on the boys’ side).

My son had some light armpit and upper lip hair before any of the other changes. There is no single formula.

It’s fine if you don’t care for swimming, but then why are you here?

why wouldn't a sanctioned meet qualify as a world record?

The KLI is a fast meet where PVS records will be broken, three Gold Medal clubs will compete, media coverage will be generated and the most decorated female Olympian in history will be in the stands and in the pool. It is the top midseason club meet on the East Coast. Period.

What records have fallen? Question mark.

I haven’t watched everything, but the boys 13-14 200 free record was broken.

+1 I haven’t had a chance to look for others, but at a minimum, this record was broken (aside from KL’s incredible swim).

As was the PVS record in 9-10 boys 50 fly and 100 fly.

What I've seen/heard but not fact checked, is that there are not world records for SCY events.

Why would there be a world record for a meet happening in yards? You realize most of the world uses the metric system, right?
