+1 I haven’t had a chance to look for others, but at a minimum, this record was broken (aside from KL’s incredible swim). |
I’m just looking at this race and the difference between these meets is stark. To make the A finals at Riley Eaton, you needed a 1:54.80. That time would be 52nd place at KLI. |
| As people said earlier the depth at this meet for the 13-14 and Open groups was incredible. My frame of reference is the girls, but it was tough to crack the 13-14 finals without sectional cuts with the exception of yesterday’s 100 free and 200 IM, which I’m guessing may have been somewhat related to being on the last day (although the girls in the 200 back yesterday had 14/16 put down sectional cuts at finals). It was impressive that these events on the girls side weren’t dominated by 14 year olds either, there were 13 year olds making finals and getting sectional cuts. |
For most girls there is very little difference developmentally between a 13 and 14 year old. For boys, a very different story and the 13 year old boys making finals are the ones who had precocious puberty. I agree about the depth of the meet! |
| Did they charge spectators to attend this year? Just curious (DD swam a different meet) |
AFAIK, this doesn't count as a world record since it was a PVS meet not fully compliant with World Aquatics standards to count a a WR.

Girls and swim development. There is not always a huge difference between a 13 year old girl and a 15 year old. Age has less bearing with girls after puberty. The girl differential hits years earlier. The early puberty girls (11-12) start taking off and dropping times and you have the late bloomers struggling. By 14, it is a pretty even playing field with not huge improvements. Boys, that is where a 13 year old will have a tough time against a 15 year old or older kid. Boys keep growing until college. Late bloomers struggle and generally fall out of swim. It is tough to be that much slower for years. I think swim becomes incredibly hard for the boys at an age where it is hard for them to be properly motivated. |
There is no such thing as a world record for SCY. |
Oh yeah, my mistake... |
Yes. They also had swimmers from Marymount University time the finals sessions again, which is an amazing perk if your kid swims at finals. |
13 is not precocious puberty for a boy. That’s a medical term used for puberty earlier than the normal range. 13 is normal. |
It is normal for starting puberty/early stages. These 13 years olds are not starting - they are already full grown men with full height/muscles/hair. They started years ago (earlier than normal). |
| Who cares what midseason meet is faster or which LSC or club or site is better? At the end of the day it isn’t helping your DS get better recruiting offers. Focus on the individual - not the others. |
Just stop. Your obsession with a particular male teenage swimmer and your need to post about him anonymously here is gross. |
A 13 year old boy with muscles is pretty normal. If he has a mustache and beard though, watch out, he's probably very fast. Tanner stages Age at the start Noticeable changes (in males) Stage 1 After the 9th or 10th birthday None Stage 2 Around age 11 Pubic hair starts to form Stage 3 Around age 13 Voice begins to change or “crack”; muscles get larger Stage 4 Around age 14 Acne may appear; armpit hair forms Stage 5 Around age 15 Facial hair comes in |
