This is just so weird because you're nosing around about what a kid is studying in college not because you care about the kid (clearly you don't or you would have contacted them over the past 5 yrs) but because you need some data point for your own research. You view the kid as a check mark. A commodity. It's just so distasteful and even more-so because you clearly don't get how weird your behavior is because your replies are tone deaf.

You have way more time on your hands if you can manage to stay in touch with all of the parents of every kid your kids have ever known. I don’t have that much time so this is an easy way to get a brief update about them. Closing the chapter of childhood.

No, that chapter closed when you left preschool and didn't stay in touch. Talk about time on your hands to start such a discussion.

YES! Why don't you reach out? I'm sure your friends would love to hear from you. This seriously is exactly what is wrong with society today, especially places like the DMV. You won't reach out to a former friend to extend a human connection or tell them that you're thinking of them but you will stalk them in social media. ☹️

There's a reason you haven't kept in touch with the parents of every single kid your kids have ever known. You don't know them anymore. And if your kids are not friends or friendly with them nor you keep in touch with their parents, why do you need to know this information?

The reason is that I don’t have time/energy to keep in touch with every single family we’ve ever gotten to know over the many years of parenting.

I can however periodically take a quick scan through the Instagram pages to see if I see any kids we know.

I don’t care if you think it’s creepy but I get a small joy out of cheering on these kids we’ve known as they move on to the next chapter of their life.

If there were an easy, non-awkward way of doing that I’d be up for it. But I’m already struggling to keep up with current social events plus aging parents, work, etc.

My kid was talking about doing a “reunion” with one of these old peer groups toward the end of the school year. But they already keep in touch.
