Is there a soup that will convert “soup is not a meal” people into soup people?

Beef stew.

That sounds delicious. I would probably want a vegetable on the side.

That raises an interesting point. Why does the soup have to be the whole meal to count. Hardly anyone eats just a steak with no side vegetable or potato, but no one would say steak isn't a meal.

Of course steak isn’t a meal. It’s a component of a meal. Most of the time soup is too. I serve soup with something on the side all the time. I love soup! But it’s almost always a component of a meal.

For DH it was a pasta fagioli loaded with pasta and beans. Served with bread (bread is also apparently needed to complete other various bean based meals).

It was fabulous. 8 huge cups of stew/soup. Just amazing. I was full.

That sounds amazing! Can you post the recipe?

Chinese beef noodle soup is very hearty.

Broccoli cheddar soup is not soup, you're just drinking fondue.

Khichadi with lots of veggies and a side of potato chokha.

Yeah, I don't get why people need to be convinced. I don't care for soup. I will eat certain soups that I prepare myself, just the way I like (I don't like them liquidy so they'll be more like marinated beans and vegetables). I am picturing someone trying to serve me all different kinds of soups until they convert me into a soup person, but why?

Agree 100%. I’ve yet to encounter anyone beyond my MIL and aunts that love soup and chatter about soup. I’ve never heard friends or co workers talk about or bring soup. I’ve never seen anyone order soup at a restaurant. Never been to a dinner party or event that served soup.
I wonder if it’s just a few people on this board.

I get Ramen and Pho but those don’t seem to be in the mix with the soup pusher.

You really think that it’s just a few people on this board who like soup???

NP who is also incredulous about this claim. My family is obsessed with soup, and I have it multiple times per week. I have three teen athletes who are happy to have soup for dinner if it’s a hearty one or accompanied by something that adds extra calories like cheese bread.

Who are these people you are cooking for? Teens, friends, boomers, obese people with huge appetites? Soup is really filling for thin people but maybe not for fat people.

NP and the three people in my life who are overtly “soup isn’t a meal” people are all very fit. What’s your problem?

Agree. So rude and unnecessary. My skim family does not think soup is a meal, and I (heavier) really enjoy a nice soup in the winter. But it’s not worth the trouble because I need to also make something else.

No.

I like clam chowder. Sometimes.
If someone else likes soup, that’s fine. I don’t have any need to be “converted”. They can enjoy their soup while I enjoy my salad.

I think you’re missing the point of the question, which is really about soup (or steak) being the main, not the whole meal. People assume steak will come with sides but most people also assume soup is a side or app, not the main dish, because it generally is not considered filling.

My favourite one is a zuppa toscana OG rip off style soup. I actually made it this week and its sooo delicious! That said, I'm a soup lover so not the exact audience BUT I've never had anyone say anything but praise for this soup, so it's always a hit at our house.

I dont always use kale though, you can sub spinach or bok choy or chard for the green.
