Is there a soup that will convert “soup is not a meal” people into soup people?

I love adding cheese and tortilla strips and it's a very hearty soup with the shredded chicken.

Good call. A friend served this for a lunch gathering and my kids loved it. Lots of add ins, cheese, avocado, tortilla strips or chips, sour cream. She recommended Pioneer Woman’s recipe and I did that, but cheated with rotisserie chicken. And then I have also done a copycat Cafe Rio chicken tortilla soup….yuuuuummmmmm.

Thanks for this topic! I am now inspired for this cold weather. I’m going to do one of those chicken tortilla ones and the Rachel ray one posted at first!

But soup and half a sandwich isn't a real meal Jerry.

I had a hot dog earlier

This lasagna soup is quite filling and satisfies my husband who doesn’t like thin broth filled soups.

That’s just lasagna with more sauce.

Yeah, I don't get why people need to be convinced. I don't care for soup. I will eat certain soups that I prepare myself, just the way I like (I don't like them liquidy so they'll be more like marinated beans and vegetables). I am picturing someone trying to serve me all different kinds of soups until they convert me into a soup person, but why?

😆😵‍💫 sort of. Op here. I’m looking for soups that can be dinner. DH was raised that soup was out of the can and only to sip when you’re sick not a dinner meal of any type. It will also be an easy meal my teens can reheat without burning and make next year at college.

…If I can find the right, hearty soups!

Do they like soup? Because it doesn't sound like you guys eat soup regularly, and you already have a college-bound teen so it's not like you're all new to each other ....
Lots of things can be reheated without burning, and honestly it's a rare teen who is going to make soup from scratch in their apartment. I think this is a misguided quest. Best of luck, though.

We have 1 soup that makes your soup is a meal criteria. However it is not something quick. Homemade chicken and dumpling is a 6 hour cook.

And this is why America is fighting an obesity epidemic ...

Your college students will not make soups at college. Good soups often require several ingredients, lots of chopping, and time (especially making your own stock). My college freshman daughter loves soup, so much so that she wrote her college essay about different types of soup. But even she hasn’t had any soup other than the stuff from the can or dining hall. She was so excited to come home at thanksgiving and make avgolemono and turkey noodle soups while she was home.

Avgolemono soup might be a good one to bring people into the soup loving family.

Who are these people you are cooking for? Teens, friends, boomers, obese people with huge appetites? Soup is really filling for thin people but maybe not for fat people.

Thin people can have huge appetites.

Chicken and dumplings

That sounds delicious. I would probably want a vegetable on the side.

Chili
I make a chicken chorizo stew, but otherwise, no.

That raises an interesting point. Why does the soup have to be the whole meal to count. Hardly anyone eats just a steak with no side vegetable or potato, but no one would say steak isn't a meal.

I don’t enjoy cooking. Annie’s brand has a lentil soup tbat I drain slightly and eat over rice. It’s one of DDs favorite dinners.

Because many soups have vegetables, protein and carbs all in one. It's a complete meal (not chicken and dumplings).
