Thinking of moving to VA. Tell me more about the high schools in FCPS.

. Langley should be your top choice if you can afford to buy into that pyramid. No question.

I’d pick at least nine other FCPS high schools (McLean, Oakton, Madison, Woodson, Marshall, Chantilly, West Springfield, Robinson, and Lake Braddock) over Langley.

DP. Could you please stop huffily responding to the obvious troll?

Please consider private school if you care about your children’s future.

If I could do it all over again, this is what I would do. Students are treated like convicts. Yelled at between periods to rush to the next class. Unable to use the bathroom because it is closed due to vaping. chastised if they try to use it during lunch or class. E-hall pass. Metal detectors at the front door.

If you can afford it, private.

I am so sad with what it has become.

The diminishing quality of an FCPS education is the direct result of mismanagement by the School Board (just look at the boundary fiasco/ ndas), Michelle Reid, and an exceptionally-bloated Gatehouse.

As far as all the wasted budget $$ in Gatehouse (the HQ for FCPS), it extends far beyond the building.

There are an excessive number of “assistant principals” now, and a well-known pipeline for failed principals leading directly to do-nothing jobs at Gatehouse.

Reid and the SB are entirely at fault for this situation.

We will no longer have access to Richard Montgomery or Blair. We live in a region where our school does not have the advanced classes. This will be a problem for one of my kids who is STEM focused.

Good to know about Chantilly and Edison. I will look into those.

We are also considering renting before buying.

Both of us WFH so commute is not a factor.

If commute is not a factor, and kids are interested in STEM, why not live farther out and get more house for the money? Loudoun County has Academies of Loudoun for STEM, which is well-regarded.

It’s definitely an FCPS problem, but it goes beyond just FCPS.

Go private.

Ignore this person. There’s a lot of envy here because it costs big bucks to live where you can attend Langley. OP, Langley is consistently ranked top public after TJ and has the best facilities. Here’s the ranks: https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/virginia/rankings

I would not move to FCPS and bank on my kid attending TJ.
