Thinking of moving to VA. Tell me more about the high schools in FCPS.

DD's teachers in the well regarded school are abysmal, with a couple of exceptions. The ones in the poorly regarded school were excellent, with one exception. The kids that do well in her classes do so almost entirely because the parents are willing to spend unlimited resources to make up for teaching quality.

The student cohort IS different. There are fewer behavior problems. She does find though that the problems at the poorly rated school are greatly exaggerated.

I would ask for a transfer back to the other HS if I were you! Why did you move?

Translation: I am a fragile and unable to cope with the thought that little Larlo may have to breathe the same classroom air as children who are not rich and white, possibly Asian. I think DCUM is a serious discussion board and not a satire of entitled UMC douchebags.

Meanwhile, back in reality, most other FCPS schools also offer a ton of AP/IB options, have test scores well above state and national averages, and graduate scores of kids who go on to attend a wide array of colleges/universities and succeed in life.

DP. I have kids at one of the above two schools and agree with you completely. The PP is just the usual troll who no doubt has zero kids at either of those schools but just enjoys starting stupid fights.

I think you're being played and that it's as likely as not that the poster to whom you responded doesn't have kids at either Langley or McLean. They are good schools, though.

Exactly. Just the usual troll.

Please consider private school if you care about your children’s future.

If I could do it all over again, this is what I would do. Students are treated like convicts. Yelled at between periods to rush to the next class. Unable to use the bathroom because it is closed due to vaping. chastised if they try to use it during lunch or class. E-hall pass. Metal detectors at the front door.

If you can afford it, private.

I am so sad with what it has become.

I have no clue about FCPS so please enlighten me about the advanced programs, what the local school offerings are.

Is TJ the only school with advanced programs or does every school in FCPS have an advanced track?

One kid is STEM oriented.

Which high schools should we be looking into?

From where are you moving? The school district and or state

DP.
How do parents act?
Doe the 29 HS have lockdowns and shelter in place and secure and holds like at Montgomery county public schools in Maryland?

Keep in mind that FCPS is one of the largest school systems in the country and is huge in area, number of students, and number of schools.
All of them have advanced courses. Some have more than others. All have some good faculty and some not so good.

Our younger kids went to a highly rated AP school and, with a couple of exceptions, had stronger teachers than at the less affluent IB school that our oldest child attended. I'm not saying our experience was universal or carries more weight, but it differed from yours.

I had several kids in one of the top pyramids. There were ALOT of great teachers (one of which admin ran off), some so-so teachers, and a few abysmal ones.

It was luck of the draw. Some years a kid got all great teachers, sometimes a mix.

Activities were top notch, 50/50 experience with sports (the girls varsity soccer coach was both egotistical and incompetent).

Having a school with few behavior problems is also no small matter.

. Langley should be your top choice if you can afford to buy into that pyramid. No question.

Or Falls Church city. Not FCPS and yet right here.

I for one, love the problems/drama that result from low income/opressed groups. I made sure that my kids went to those schools so they could stand out.

I mean the fact that they had to deal with all sorts of wacky shenanigans made for great stories at the dinner table too.

I’d pick at least nine other FCPS high schools (McLean, Oakton, Madison, Woodson, Marshall, Chantilly, West Springfield, Robinson, and Lake Braddock) over Langley.

This has got to be a joke post.

Avoid anything in Annandale.

Avoid Herndon HS and South Lakes HS.

The diminishing quality of an FCPS education is the direct result of mismanagement by the School Board (just look at the boundary fiasco/ ndas), Michelle Reid, and an exceptionally-bloated Gatehouse.
