The only experience that can beat college (playing at being an adult with many guardrails) is actually living as an independent adult. Lots of high school graduates jump right in.

That’s rough. I’m aware there are millions that don’t have a choice. There are also a few that skip college because they are motivated geniuses. Kids of most people lurking here are neither too poor nor geniuses. You can pick on each on every argument like hormonal teenager, but the fact of the matter remains the same - college is great if one can afford and paying too much for it even when you can afford is moronic.

Fake news.

AGI is a pipe dream .

Some AI tools, however, will be immensely helpful…
But no Nirvana !

That's the best we can do for them.

Can your 2 kids live in one house happily ever after , in the worst case scenario?

You have AI proofed yourself.

I could see ER docs being replaced by AI algorithms telling technicians and mid levels what to carry out. There will be a need for healthcare roles, but there will be less need for high level expensive MD education, except for a few to oversee operations. Much of medicine is algorithmic nowadays.

Last 2 times my kids needed Urgent Care or ER, AI gave a more detailed and thoughtful diagnosis - and in one case, the doctor was flat out wrong but AI got it right...

AI may give a better answer ( just as en experienced nurse has a better answer , at times, than an inexperienced doc. But, pray tell who is gonna take the liability? Open AI? Google? lol 😂

All softwares that engineers use today wash their hands of any bad outcome..

The Arlington County Police Department will increase its starting salary to $90,012 beginning on July 1st, 2026. That’s perfect timing for 2026 college graduates. They offer up to a $25,000 hiring bonus and officers work the equivalent of 37.5 hours a week.

How many college graduates start at $90k plus a $25k bonus in a profession that provides a pension and is insulated from AI?

If your child is interested they should start the application process over winter break.

complete hogwash! We are SO SO far away from emulating complete human intelligence right now. Do your research!

By “we” you mean Americans, correct?

“We” have no line of sight into the most secretive labs in China, Russia, North Korea, India, etc.
