What is the training they undergo? Please be specific.

I’m not referring to pursuit driving training or high performance driving training - I’m speaking of the training that lets them text, talk on the phone handheld, and operate a laptop.

What’s that training consist of? What makes it rigorous? Please cite sources.

I think the fact that other people text while driving has nothing to do with the fact that texting while driving is dangerous and no one should be texting while driving.

Most Drivers beat them to hell and put little into maintenance.

Personally, I would find him an old Toyota manual pick-up truck.

Not necessarily. I bought a manual when I was 21 not knowing how to drive it. I never had to replace the clutch.

I mean, you learned on a manual too, right? I know I did, in my home country in Europe. I wouldn't have any problems getting a manual for my kids, but in our household, they don't get their own cars as teens. We already have two (automatic) cars that are enough for 4 people, what with our school walkability and flexible parent schedules.

Mazda 3 still has the option for a manual transmission. Might not fit the bill for sporty car for a teen, but it's a good deal for a car with excellent safety ratings.

I know quite a few people that owned Mazda 3s with manual transmissions. They are great cars.
