18 year old wants manual transmission

I have had manual transmission vehicles for at least 30 years and have never replaced a clutch. One I had for 14 years and my current one for the past 10. Clutches are not that delicate.

There are very few cars on the market with stick any more.

As for the Impreza WRX, ask your insurance agent. That's like a race car and insurance rates for a new teen driver will be sky-high.

See if you can find a VW Jetta with stick.

If you want something more mellow,/boring, you should be able to find a small Honda or Toyota with a stick. May be older, though.

He will race it. That’s why he wants it. Would be a no for me.

Won't be texting on his phone while he's intentionally concentrating on reckless driving.

Never had to replace the clutch in a year with a new driver.

He’s a responsible kid who has no incidents thus far. It would make him very very happy. Is this reasonable to get him a sporty manual transmission car? Like Impreza WRX.

At least he won’t get jacked

Car won’t get stolen as easily!

Go VW, the hatchback will come in handy when moving in and out of the dorms.

Can't text while driving a stick? Amateurs.

Not necessarily. I bought a manual when I was 21 not knowing how to drive it. I never had to replace the clutch.

Agree! I have always driven a manual. Was taught "never to ride the clutch." Never had to replace one.

Real men know how to drive manuals. My 16 yr old nephew drives one and I wonder if they are trending somewhere in social media land.
Older models - Mazda and Hondas in my family.

Camaro could be another option.

Then I would definitely recommend a Miata. It is still the most affordable car to race and the best to learn on.

A sporty car for a teen? Manual or automatic, that’s a no. A less sporty manual would be a wiser move.
