Ohh my OP you really got from this article that a girl from this area "trains with a top pro team in france" yikes

Oh please - OP was just baiting to discuss, again, the two local very much of average (or under) capacity ECNL players who are both miraculously playing for Duke. It’s obviously not normal that two so average/under average siblings play soccer at Duke. Their under average capacity is underscored by the older’s lack of playing time at Duke and the reputation of the other one at her club team. So yeah, they got in based on something other than their soccer abilities. That is kind ilof obvious. I would guess a large donation to Duke athletics but who knows. Please don’t say it was their grades as better soccer players with outstanding academic credentials are a dime a dozen. So who know what it was? Not soccer.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but she was the valedictorian.

That is great but does Duke athletics care about that?

Of course they do. Her "good" GPA allows a good to very good/great player to be on the team without dragging down the team's overall GPA.

And please don't think schools like Duke do this sort of thing. They absolutely do. The kids with lower GPAs aren't rocks but they aren't Duke smart either.

Around 6 million I’d guess.

Like dad is part owner of DC United connections. This is going to happen in Mclean, Bethesda, Arlington (ahem, North Arlington). Life isn't fair.

Did any of these girls end up making impacts on their teams this year? The DC United connection must be working. UVA is #1 I see.

And that player hasn’t gotten a single minute of playing time.

I just came across this thread and my heart dropped when I read the hatchet job on the 2 beautiful young women that my family has had the privilege to know personally. The Koons family has more class than any of you. These girls are exceptional people inside and out and absolutely competitive D1 soccer players. Get a life, Ladies!

Grandma has entered the discussion.

No, this comes from someone who actually knows the "people" and "kids" being talked about on an anonymous board.

I can wholeheartedly second every positive sentiment shared. These are truly some of the most incredible kids and one of the kindest families you’ll ever meet.

That's great, but please realize Duke Women's Soccer is one of the top programs in the country so anyone there who wasn't an absolute standout seems just a tad suspicious

You need to be YNT pool to even be considered at Duke. Pretty convenient for these 2…

Nobody is disparaging the kids themselves. They might be wonderful/great kids, and good for them. But their spots on the Duke team were bought, not earned. That's what the thread is about.

Duke soccer team is for national team players or the nepos. Not very interesting.

Exactly. I'm sure everyone is wonderful. This is about the soccer qualifications of the players. Rubs the people the wrong way when you shove it on everyone's face on social media on top of getting what you want. Pretty simple otherwise this strand would not exist.

the problem with Duke sports (well, besides basketball) is you are not getting a lot of scholarship money so you have to be able to both afford tuition and play the sport. Like they are offering less than 10K off the tuition price.
