Downtown property owners of Washington would disagree with you: The DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) was founded in 1997 and is a private, nonprofit place management organization. We oversee a 140-block area of approximately 530 properties and numerous parks and public space, from Massachusetts Avenue NW on the north, including the Walter E. Washington Convention Center at Mount Vernon Square, to Constitution Avenue NW on the south, and from Louisiana Avenue NW on the east to 16th Street/Black Lives Matter Plaza NW on the west. This is a special district where property owners have agreed to tax themselves to fund services. That takes care of the eastern half of downtown. What about the western half? Just steps away from the White House, the Golden Triangle is a premier mixed-use location in DC's downtown, where the community connects through innovation, design, inclusivity, and culture. The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District is an award-winning non-profit 501(c)(6) corporation that works to enhance the Golden Triangle — the 44-square-block neighborhood that stretches from Dupont Circle to Pennsylvania Avenue. I've lived in the same downtown apartment building since 1992, and I remember when these BIDs were created. For the record, DowntownDC and the Golden Triangle exclude Foggy Bottom and the West End. If someone considers those two neighborhoods to be part of downtown, I wouldn't fight them on it. Georgetown, like Capitol Hill, is a separate animal, and Cleveland Park is lower Maryland. https://www.downtowndc.org/ https://goldentriangledc.com/ |
